I contacted Pengsten about this friday via email. He replied he could do it as a customization, and I sent him back saying that was no problem and to send me his estimate and we can get started asap. Not sure if he was saying he would make the customization just for us, or as a community release, but I will make sure it is the latter. Just need to see how fast he moves now...I will post when I get more info

Will Sugg, we don't have it running on as a production site yet but here is a prelim. screenshot below of our use of Ventrian NA inside AS for blogging (the 'analysis' tab shown is basically the same as blog tab with some minor differences i.e. analysis posts must meet quality standards and appear in other places on the site while blog posts can be of basically any quality or subject). In this example a user can also include an external link and if they do the shortcut icon will appear with each post summary in the list, on hover the target url is displayed and on click the target website is launched inside a lightbox effect.

I don't want to put works in Will's mouth but the idea for the journal integration is to ultimately develop up the API so any module can write into it....third party, core, roll your own, whatever. I'm anxious to add Property Agent and am help Will and Scott manage through all of the possible combinations that Admin might come up with.

@Will: Thanks - I had to set it to invisible as I had some problems with it but it's on my list to make visible again at some point...

Rodney, are you saying that you have problems with the integration of Ventrian NA and had to make the tab invisible? Can you describe the problems? I am trying to decide whether to move from Ultra News Article in favor of Ventrian because of the integration.

Also, if anyone else has an opinion on Ultra News Article by biz modules vs. Ventrian News Articles, I would love to hear it.

I have not used biz modules NA, only Ventrian, but I have demo'd it and looked into it some. The templating capabilities of Ventrian far exceeds UNA (last time I checked.) I cannot think of any drawbacks to Ventrian - any bugs that crop up (uncommon) are quickly addressed, nor are there any features I can think of that UNA has that Ventrian does not.

Ventrian News Articles was the first module that we allowed to write to the Journal. We want to make sure the integration works well before we open the API completely. There are a few other blog, video and media modules that will be announced shortly. Hopefully we will be able to add Ultra Media Gallery and Ultra Video Gallery in the next round. I will post links to the modules that we will be adding shortly.

@TotalGolf - No, I can't say for sure - I didnt have time to look at it (was months ago) - probably something minor I'm sure - not worth worrying about. Personally I would not switch modules for a single feature - I'm sure it would be better to get UNA to implement this feature when possible. There's a good thread on the core forums listing about 10 different Article/blog modules you may wanna check out (I currently like the look of SunBlogNuke but I am an oldtime Ventrian user).

I don't think I'd switch for one feature in most cases, but I haven't launched my site so it would be pretty easy. In my case, I'm trying to look ahead. I really want to know that all of my modules will be as tightly integrated as possible and the products will be actively supported. A lot of people on here seem to like Ventrian News Articles and Scott's initiative to be the first to integrate is very positive. I also do very much like the idea that Ventrian seems to have built a more customizeable product using templates similar to AS.

On the other hand, biz modules products are very functional out of the box. Can anyone tell me if Ventrian can do the following (without customization that would be overwritten in an upgrade). 1. Integrate with AS such that you can have a blog's author automatically link to their AS profile? 2. Create a tag list for a post.

I was totally thrilled to see the real integration of NA with AS. I saw it on Scott's site first and I immediately put in a plug to do a similar integration for Ventrian Feedback Center. Scott replied and seems to support the idea. I know he is working on some Property Agent integration so I am not sure of the timing for the Feedback Center.

For me I really need to have the Feedback Center heavily used so that my community can help drive and prioritize the feature set. And having the Feedback Center tied into the Journal and Profiles will have bring awareness and drive more voting for recommended improvements by the community.

Both 1 and 2 are easily achieved with your own template that will not be overwritten in an upgrade.

Ventrian News Articles (and Property Agent, for that matter) can easily have a blog's author automatically link to their profile. I have the templates on our site set up so each news article displays the name and profile picture for the author and the last person to update the article. In addition, the display name and picture are linked to the user's AS profile, but only if the user viewing the article is logged in (this is because all our profiles are visible only to logged in users).

I highly recommend Ventrian's modules. NA is very good for a number of things in addition to a blog/news module. We use it for news as well as a FAQ system. When you subscribe, you get all the Ventrian modules, including NA and Property Agent. PA is kind of mis-named as it is really powerful and can be used for a number of things, not just managing properties. We use it on our site for publishing information about soccer field locations.
