Hopefully you have heard about the Mobile DotNetNuke Hackathon that will be taking place tomorrow in St. Louis Missouri. Don't worry if you can't make it to St. Louis. They will also be streaming the event live. This is going to be a fantastic event and great learning opportunity for anyone that wants to learn about building mobile apps in conjunction with DotNetNuke.
In order to build a mobile application for your website you need to have something that will allow for communication between the mobile device and your website. DotNetNuke doesn't include any web services at this time, but that isn't a major problem. Creating web services is fairly easy if you understand the DotNetNuke API. Fortunately, there is a open source project called
iWeb from Michael Washington. There are a couple of web services included with the module along with documentation on how to create your own. Still not interested in creating web services? You could always use the Active Social Services API.
We will be releasing Active Social 1.8 Beta later today which includes many different options for communicating with your DotNetNuke website. Below are the various methods that are available with Active Social 1.8 Beta.

Most of these methods are already documented in the Active Social Knowledge Base. I will be posting some code samples later today as well.
I encourage you to participate in the DotNetNuke Mobile Hackathon. Attend the session tomorrow and start building a mobile app. Active Modules will be participating in the Hackathon as well. Please feel free to post in the Active Social Developers forum if you have questions about working with the Active Social Services API.
Make sure you check out the blog posts from
Joe Brinkman and
Chris Hammond of DNN Corp for more details about the
Hackathon and how you can participate.
