Active Forums and Active Social will require a patch for DotNetNuke 5.4

by Will M on 20 Apr 2010 05:14 AM

I really hate to post something like this again, but we really don't have a choice.  A few minutes ago I noticed a message on twitter from Peter Donker, founder of Bring2Mind and creator of the Document Exchange Module (DMX), about a problem with DNN 5.4.  He also included a link to the issue he created in the DotNetNuke Bug Tracker.  I have confirmed that this problem will also cause problems with Active Social and Active Forums.

Please do not upgrade to DotNetNuke 5.4.

I want all our customers to know that we do our very best to stay on top of each DotNetNuke release.  Anytime there is an Alpha or Beta release of a DotNetNuke build we always test it immediately.  The development and release process for DotNetNuke has changed drastically over the past several months. Just like with DNN 5.3 we were not given any opportunity to test 5.4 prior to release.  DotNetNuke Corp.  is saying these changes are for the better, but it seems to be getting worse.  I hope they work out their growing pains soon.

We will post another update as soon as we know more about this issue.

Thanks,
Will

I agree with you Will. This sucks. Once a month update is good idea but releasing new feature with these releases suck as they are rushing to rollout new features.

RSS Feeds on Ventrian Modules don't work anymore either. Are you planning to issue a patch or are you waiting for 5.4.1?

Waiting on 5.4.1 is the best option.

According to DNN, they're planning 5.4.1 for the end of this week.

Is it ok to upgrade to DNN5.4.2? I tried it and my site is shafted, but I thought I read that this issue was resolved (my problem is something to do with the core userprofile page too)

DNN 5.4.2 is fine. We are running DNN 5.4.2 on this site.
