We upgraded to 1.8. What about all the Journal entries that were there before the upgrade? When you are logged off they are all gone and our web site looks totally empty.

Sounds like you were using the old site summary view which displayed everything regardless of permissions or security. That view actually shouldn't have been working since AS 1.5. That being said, none of your journal entries are gone. They are just now using the security they should have been all along. If you look in the Journal section of the Active Social Control panel you will see that there is a new default security option. If you still want everyone to see everything then make the default Everyone. That setting will only affect new journal posts. I will post a script shortly that will allow you to update the security on old posts to everyone.

Thanks Will. I am having the same problem, although I have used social summary from the start and have never used site summary. Since I upgraded, even the new posts in the various groups are not displaying in social summary. The only items that currently display are the journal entries placed directly within social summary. Journal entries and discussion posts placed in the groups since the upgrade still do not display in social summary.

Will your upcoming script correct that as well or is there something else I need to do so that new posts will display?

    Thanks.

Displaying all journal entries has never been possible. It has always been based upon some kind of relationship. Up until 1.8 the only possible relationships were friends or groups. As I mentioned in a blog post when I announced this feature, the default behavior is still the same. However, now it is properly enforced and provides more admin options. Just to clarify, the default behavior is that a user will only see items from friends and groups to which they belong. If you were experiencing something different prior to 1.8 then you were using the old Site Summary or there was a bug that we weren't aware of that was corrected by the new security model in 1.8. Does any of that matter? Not really. As I've said before, we never want to force a certain configuration on anyone and always try to provide options. Once we finish looking into upgrade issues and bug reports I'll make a post about how to configure the journal for various use cases. Basically, if you want everything to appear then you need to go into the journal options make everyone the default. That will affect future journal entries.

    Will -

I know you and your team are busy, but do you have an estimate when this script will be ready? I want to make all previous Journal posts visible to Everyone in the Summary.

    Thanks

I believe Will's actively working on it based on feedback following resolution of a similar problem (great support as always).

I'm also waiting on the script which should hopefully resolve the last bit of my issue, which is that new journal entries aren't appearing to anonymous users like they used to. Given even the changes I can see on ActiveModules, and support calls such as my own, I think busy is an understatement though!

    Hey Will,

Just a note - I know you're still pretty flat out. If you have some pointers I'd be happy to have a crack at making the necessary changes myself.

    cheers,

    Matt

I am sorry but I don't recall if it was. I don't have it if it was at least.
