    New install, not upgrade.
DNN 5.4.4, AS Active Social 1.7 Build: 01.07.02 Release Date: July 14, 2010
No errors in installing both modules.

Active Social - "Getting Started" Setup Guide with Pictures
Step 8: At this time you should only add one instance of Active Social per page. To do this, select it from the drop down menu in the admin control panel and click “Add.”
Step 9: 9.You will be presented with the following menu. Use it to select a configuration option.

No, instead of step 9, I get this error:

InnerException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. FileName: FileLineNumber: 0 FileColumnNumber: 0 Method: Active.Modules.Social.Data.Connection..ctor StackTrace: Message: DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at Active.Modules.Social.Data.Connection..ctor() at Active.Modules.Social.SocialSettings.GeneralSettings(Int32 PortalId, Int32 ModuleId, String GroupKey) at Active.Modules.Social.SocialSettings.LoadSettings(Int32 PortalId) at Active.Modules.Social.SocialBase.LoadSettings() at Active.Modules.Social.SocialBase..ctor() at Active.Modules.Social.Main..ctor() at ASP.desktopmodules_activesocial_main_ascx..ctor() at __ASP.FastObjectFactory_app_web_tn35rxrd.Create_ASP_desktopmodules_activesocial_main_ascx() at System.Web.Compilation.BuildResultCompiledType.CreateInstance() at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(IWebObjectFactory objectFactory, VirtualPath virtualPath, Type t, Object[] parameters) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(String virtualPath) at DotNetNuke.UI.ControlUtilities.LoadControl[T](TemplateControl containerControl, String ControlSrc) at DotNetNuke.UI.Modules.ModuleHost.LoadModuleControl() --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

That usually means you received the PIVOT error during installation. Read the article below, uninstall Active Forums and Active Social then reinstall

There was no error during installation of either module as I said in previous post and it was set to SQL Server 2005 90 - I checked the database.

Yes, I understand you mentioned no errors during install. However, it is very common for a customers to miss the pivot error during install because it will still report the module as being installed successfully. I would suggest creating a support ticket with host access so we can verify your configuration.

I removed all 4 modules. Made sure database is set to 2005 - it is, as other things need 2005.
Reinstalled the 4 modules. No errors. Can add the other 3 modules to page ... the forum module even asks if I want to get started setting up. But I can not add ActiveSocial module to a page even when it is the only module on page.
Could it be because where using Telerik as html editor?
This time I noticed you had a newer version 1.7.3

This is the error we get:
Error: ActiveSocial is currently unavailable. DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at Active.Modules.Social.Data.Connection..ctor() at Active.Modules.Social.SocialSettings.GeneralSettings(Int32 PortalId, Int32 ModuleId, String GroupKey) at Active.Modules.Social.SocialSettings.LoadSettings(Int32 PortalId) at Active.Modules.Social.SocialBase.LoadSettings() at Active.Modules.Social.SocialBase..ctor() at Active.Modules.Social.Main..ctor() at ASP.desktopmodules_activesocial_main_ascx..ctor() at __ASP.FastObjectFactory_app_web_5yoop6ea.Create_ASP_desktopmodules_activesocial_main_ascx() at System.Web.Compilation.BuildResultCompiledType.CreateInstance() at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(IWebObjectFactory objectFactory, VirtualPath virtualPath, Type t, Object[] parameters) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(String virtualPath) at DotNetNuke.UI.ControlUtilities.LoadControl[T](TemplateControl containerControl, String ControlSrc) at DotNetNuke.UI.Modules.ModuleHost.LoadModuleControl() --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Something is failing at the SQL Server. I believe it is probably related to permissions. I'll post some scripts for you to run in the morning. One last question, what us different in this environment than your previous environment where Active Social was installed and activated?

It is on same server but I installed that a few days after buying - so whatever version you had then (about 1 yr ago). Never upgraded or used it for that matter. Probably DNN 4.9.5? But same SQL 2005 - different database and DNN install. (I could fire it up from backups)

Unfortunately, everytime DNN upgrades, something breaks. So wanted to start with latest DNN and AS and not change for a long time. DNN - their latest fiasco, setting register by default to a page that doesn't exist and making you change it back to register. Or blog, requiring a missing attribute that you have to add manually. The list goes on ...

I have no doubt this is due to some missing attribute or some permission thing like you say and the fault lies with DNN rather than your modules. However, I have no clue where to start to hunt for this problem.

Oh, that previous install didn't have dnn blog or invenmanager calendar (which needs Telerik dll which you had to add manually, as it was't in DNN install for some reason)

if it will help, I could do a fresh install of DNN 5.4.4 and AS on a test domain and nothing else. This particular DNN install has been upgraded from 4.8? (not in 1 shot) However, upgrades may be cause of problem?

Sounds like a seriously mucked up DNN install. I'm thinking do the test install.
