So I was wondering a while back whether AS used basic authentication to do its Twitter operations. I suspected so since it was showing as "from web" when the tweet appeared. I may have raised it before in the forums, but I can't now remember Anyway, with basic authentication now switched off on Twitter, I was just wondering if we'll see an update soon to use oAuth authentication for the Twitter integration. Not many of my users use the Twitter feature, but I just put a site announcement out in one of our groups, and established that it's definitely no longer working. The cool thing about it is that with oAuth, I should be able to put my own API key into AS, so tweets from my site will appear as "from AuTechHeads" and link to the site. In the meantime, back to entering tweets via a third party app.. |

Yes, I saw this update from Twitter - I guess any app signing on with stored passwords will need to be changed - I wonder if this going to make it into the 1.8 release? |

I just receive the email from Twitter of their changes; Twitter integration has been very good for us. Hope the updates will be in the next release. |

Most of the code is in 1.8, but not completely ready. I will probably make it available and labeled as beta until 1.8.1. We also need to set some expectations in regard to support for this feature since it has become more complicated. The fact that each site will need to register with Twitter has good and bad points. The bad point for us is that not everyone will want to follow the instructions and think support will do it for them. This is a priority for us and hoped we would have it ready by now, but it shouldn't be too much longer. |

Thanks Will. I'm sure those of us who are well across oAuth already will be able to help reduce the support load for you - more than happy to in my case. |

Active Social 1.8.3 will include twitter oAuth support. Which also means you can have your site name appear in the twitter feed. |

I must say that the bit.ly integration is a superb surprise, just gotta now see how it's used :-) I love my bit.ly pro custom domain, so is very cool to have. Twitter integration works awesomely, great to have the full oAuth experience! Would love to see this expand later to include options to auto-tweet new journal items, esp using the bit.ly links! But then I'd love for AS to take on Twitter and Facebook site authentication too ;-)
