I am baffled. I was chasing an issue with AS randomly not sending out notifications. I created an superuser account to allow my hosting techs to check my dnn settings. They insist i use anonymous and set it accordingly. They claim they internally ensure no spammers use my account to blast spam. This bothers me, but oh well.

Anywhoo... after they set my smtp settings according, every logged in user sees NO posts on Summary or Profile view. I did nothing else, except delete the temp superuser account.

This is very troubling. Time to hit the db yet again to try and determine why AS is seemingly so finicky.

Simply changing smtp settings or deleting a host account wouldn't have any impact whatsoever on the Active Social journal. Please create a support ticket with host access information and also provide a user test account as well.
