When joining a group does everyone receive an email upon anyones insertion? Is there a way to turn this on or off?

    Hi,

I did a search on this as you suggested in the forums, but I didn't find the answer. I did find where someone was asking about email notifications and the reply was as follows:

    ------
Notifications for group creation and membership have been in place since .15. The only notifications that are still on the roadmap are related to items posted to the journal.

    Will Morgenweck
    Active Module
    -----

However this does not tell me how to setup these email notifications. I want postings in any group to be emailed to the group members. How would they know if anything is posted unless they have to keep checking the website, which would not be real intuitive or helpful to our members. Can you please tell me how to activate the notifications for group postings? Or provide a link to another forum posting that has the information?

    Thanks for your help.

You are talking about auto subscription. Uncheck " Inherit Group Settings: " and then check the autosub in the Features tab. I don't know whether this will work.
I am using the latest AS/AF/DNN available.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

I am talking about Active Social when inserting a message into a group area.  Is there a way for that message to be emailed to everyone in the group?

    Thanks

I hear you on this one.  Until this functionality is available within the groups, the active social module will not be that useful on my site.  Checking to see if there is new content within a group is too much work and therefore no conversation takes place.

Hopefully this has been added to the next release.

    Andy,
You keep posting this same comment about how Active Social is useless to you without group notifications.  I'm pretty sure I keep giving you same answer that it will be in the upcoming release.  Maybe you haven't see my other replies or the topics about this subject.

    Thanks,
    Will

    Will,

I do keep saying this because it is what make Facebook, Myspace and Twitter what they are.  Without notification when something new is posted, the Active Social module is cool, but is missing the most important aspect of social networking.

Also, I didn't say Active Social is "Useless".  Note that I said that AS will not be that useful.

You have spent the last 6 weeks improving the module witch is great.  Hats off to you.  My point is that without the steering wheel, the Ferrari aint going nowhere.  Notice how many people have mentioned this topic.  I have real world experience with your module in a live site and none of the 2700 members of my website are using the groups.

Don't take this the wrong way.  This is just constructive criticism about your module which in my mind one of the best.  It extends the functionality of DNN the way no other company has been able to do.

    Respectfully,

    Andy

    Hi,

Thanks for the replies.  I understand now that it is not in the current release and will be in the coming one.  What is the expected release date for the new version?  I can't impliment this system until this notification feature is in place as it would be a very key element for our project communication which is the intended purpose of our purchase.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Where do you find the ETA for the next release? Is there a forum or area that shows coming releases and an expected date? I don't think one was released yesterday as if I look on the downloads page it still has the same version. I will be watching closely as my project can't start until this release happens.

    Thanks

both the above links are now dead. I too am wondering, even many months later, if this (group email notices) is active, as i do not get the emails from any groups about postings. I have seen a popup from the "Subscribe" link within my signed in profile, which leads me to believe i can set each group to send me emails for new posts etc, but how do i enable this for EVERYONE? I cannot expect new marginal users to take the time to find this, set this and then hope for the best. I WANT THEM involved from the get-go.

If not, and i have to do it manually, any pointers on the SQL required? Tables & settings is all we need, i can create the update query just fine.

Side-note: the Subscribe popup renders way off to the right in my Safari browers, almost unreachable. Each popup needs a closing button as well, this is unintuitive to not have one, simply good ui practice.

There are no known issues with group notifications. Does your site send other emails correctly?

The question revolves more around how the settings get set.
