- Active Social Version: 1.8.1
- DotNetNuke Version: 5.6.0
In my set up, when I subscribe to a group discussion/forum I dont get the typical email that I get if I am subscribed to a AF thread/forum. Is that the expected behavior or am I missing a switch somewhere?
I am hoping I can get an email like I do from the general forum.
Thanks! |

Yes, that is expected, but you can also modify the template if you like. Posts that originate in the context of Active Social, such as group forums, will go through the Active Social notification system. This is so there can be consistency throughout Active Social. |

OK - I am getting some pretty vocal feedback in my communities about wanting to see an emaill from the group discussions just like they get from the AF forums. You mention that I can modify 'the template'. Which template would this be and whats the best place to look for tokens? |

Will, I've tested this and while the token [AS:JOURNALINFO:SUMMARY] works in the journal templates, it does not seem to work in the email templates. Users get a notification email but it's empty. I've reported the through Help Desk and on the forum. I also get a ton of [negative] feedback about this on our site. Can you look into this for the patch? |

I too am getting negative feedback on my fledgling groups with respect to email notifications. The email name should be from the group, the subject should reflect the group as well, as we need to expedite the recipient's understanding of the email and why they should read it. |

Thanks Steven. Very good feedback. I did some testing today and was able to reproduce the problem with Summary for email templates. It only applies to forum posts, but all other journal items work correctly.
We do have some improvements coming for 1.9.3 that will improve the ability to customize the email template. For example, you will be able to use most of the GroupInfo tokens. We've also tried to support more of the journal tokens that you find in the journal templates. We have also already added support to better customize the subject. I also wanted to follow a little bit of what LinkedIn does for groups and made the sender appear to be from the group, but it will still use the default email address.
We have a few more things to test, but hope to have 1.9.3 wrapped up this week.

but it will still use the default email address. Well....you could take up my idea for vanity emails per group....it could use the vanity url name to create the sender and then use the domain for the domain.... activesocialconsultants@activemodules.com And...since we're chatting....that could be used as a way to post new things to the journal/forum as well as a way for people to reply as comments via email. I'm trying to find the link but I just read how one of the social component companies just introduced email posting...it parse the attachments; photos, vids, etc and organizes them for you as posts. Very cool |
