How to Setup Pages
30 May 2009 05:08 AM
The way you structure your pages when implementing Active Social is extremely flexible. It is however, very important that you consider how you want your site to be arranged. We suggest two different configurations.

    Basic – 4 Pages
    1. Forums – Contains the Active Forums module, which has your discussion forums and your Active Social group forums.
    2. Groups – A single page contains the Listing of all the Groups and will display individual groups when one is selected.
    3. Profiles – This page will show the member list and will also show a member’s profile when you click on their name.
    4. Messaging – Contains the private messaging interface.
    Standard – 6 Pages
    1. Forums – Same as Basic Configuration
    2. GroupsList – Contains the list of all the groups in the network.
    3. GroupsView – Default view of a group profile. Only visible once a group has been created.
    4. MemberList – Searchable listing of all members of the network.
    5. ProfileView – This is the page used to display a member’s profile.
    6. Messaging – Same as Basic Configuration.

We currently use the basic configuration on www.activesocial.com. The standard configuration was originally suggested for sites interested in search engine optimization. However, with Active Social 1.1, the unique URL feature allows you to directly link to any user’s page even with the basic configuration. The format for the unique URLs is as follows: www.doman.com/users/username.

If you decide you do not need certain features, such as private messaging or groups, you do not have to use them. You can disable them in the control panel and simply omit the pages from your site.
