Active Forums can create Active Social journal items two different ways. The first one happens when a user creates a forum post via an Active Social group journal. The journal item will be created in the group activity tab. The second occurs when you have AF integration enabled, and a user creates a forum post via the standard forum interface. It will create a journal item on the user’s profile activity tab, and also the site summary. Both methods can be enabled simultaneously.
Group Journal: (Skip steps 1-3 if you already have Active Social groups with forums that display correctly in the discussions tab.)
1. Navigate to Active Social Control Panel > Groups > Global Group Settings and make sure that “Yes, group forums will be automatically created.” is selected. Choose a forum group from the dropdown list, and Save. There is more information about this step in the Getting Started guide, and the admin documentation.
2. Create a new Active Social group, which in turn creates a new forum.
3. Exit the control panel.
4. Navigate to the Active Forums Control Panel > Forums > {Name of forum group that contains AS Discussion forums} > Features > Active Social Integration (On) > […]
5. Select a Journal Security preference, and check the box if you do not want replies to create journal items.
6. Save.
7. Navigate to Active Forums Control Panel > Settings > Community Options > Profile Type.
8. Select the Active Social – Social Profile page.
9. Save.
10. At this point, whenever a forum topic is created via the Active Social group discussions tab, it will create a journal entry in the group activity tab. Forum posts that are created via the Active Forums module will not create these journal entries.
