Control Panel - Feeds
21 Sep 2010 03:20 PM
The feed manager uses the DNN scheduler to get updates from RSS feeds. The control panel aspect of it is used to view and maintain all the feeds across the site. This includes personal feeds, group feeds and site wide feeds. When you first open the Feed Manager, you will be asked if you want to enable it. If you choose yes, it will initialize the DNN scheduler item and allow you to change the settings. Immediately it will give you the option to select if the feeds are moderated, and how many each user or group can import simultaneously. You can also specify a required role that a user has to belong to, in order to add a feed to the scheduler. At any point after you save it, you can see these options again by clicking the Feed Settings link at the top of the page. After you click save, you will be presented with the feed manager dashboard. Here you can see vital statistics, such as the number and type of feeds, the most active feeds and the most active users. It will show you feeds that have failed, and can also show you healthy and currently disabled feeds. You can type the name of a user or group into the text box, to show only the feeds pertaining to them. If a feed fails to update three times, it will become disabled. It could fail for a number of reasons, such as internet connection issues or the remote host being down. When you select a feed to import, you simply paste the URL into the text box. You will see a few options. First is a check box to enable or disable the feed. The next is the Refresh Interval. This setting controls how often the scheduler will check for updates. By default it is set to 1440 minutes, which is once every 24 hours. You can also select the feed target, and if you select a profile or group, you will need to designate an owner.
