Social Templates – The Active Social template manager allows you to create new templates for the different views. Clicking "New Template" displays three options:
Copy Existing Template – This option will let you select one of the current templates and use it as a base for your modifications. This is the best option if you only need to make minor changes to a template.
Upload New Template – If you have created a template file on a different computer or in a different directory, you can upload it using this interface.
Create a Blank Template – This option gives you a clean slate to start a new template. I suggest that you only use this option if you are very familiar with the Active Social template system and layout. When you are creating a new blank template, the file name must begin with the name of the template it is replacing. For example, if you are creating a new Profile View template, it must be named ProfileView_example or something similar.
After you have created the new template, it will appear in the tree on the left hand side. There are two different places that you can store templates.
Themes Directory – Use this option when you are creating a custom theme that requires a lot of template modifications.
Portals Directory – Use the portals directory when you just need to make a few template changes, and you do not need to make a new theme.
Custom Views - Custom Views allow you to further extend Active Social and display content to meet your specific requirements without the need to modify source code. Custom Views can include HTML markup and also be used to load ASP.NET Server Controls. Please visit the community forums for more details.
Email Templates - Use the editor to view and save changes to the default email templates. These templates are used to notify administrators and members about events on the network. If you are editing a template, please make sure that the template shows up in both html and plain text mode. Use the two tabs at the top of the text box to toggle between the two modes. Click on the "Save View" button when you are finished.
