We have our site set up with a default privacy setting of Friends Only.  Since nobody is a friend with anyone else at the outset, members can't see each others' profiles, as expected.

However, if I click on the screen name of a stranger in the Member Directory, the response is to reload the list from the top, without my filter or search parameters.

Question is, is this the expected behavior or do I have something mis-configured?

I was hoping for an ajax popup with an error message along the lines of "You have to be Fred's friend to view his profile."  Is there any way to get something like this working?

    Thanks,
    Marty

That is not the expected behavior, a user who has their profile set the friends only should not appear on the members list for users who are not their friends.

Are you using the latest version?

    We're using DNN 5.6.1, AS 1.9.3.

If that's the case, how can a member get "found" and "friended" if they don't appear an the directory? I thought that the Hide setting was for hiding a user from the Member Directory?

I thought that the privacy setting of Friends Only controlled who's allowed to view a user's profile, not directory listing.

This is an issue that has been discussed and I believe there are plans to improve the functionality in a future version.

    http://www.activemodules.com/active...ends-only/

However, I still can not reproduce the issue with users appearing in the Members list when they are not supposed to. Have you modified the template?

The "Allow Users to Hide setting" on the members page of the control panel is for hiding the Online status, not for hiding the entire entry in the members list.

    Ben,

Thanks for the link to that other thread - similar issue, but one in which a question from January still hasn't been answered by DNN yet!

So, my installation must not be working correctly for some reason. I need to get this resolved, or at least better understood.

    Hi again,

So, based on our earlier discussion that there's something wrong with my AS installation, I tried to repair the module installation and received the following error:

ExceptionSystem.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file 'C:\NurseTogether561b\bin\Active.Modules.Social.dll' because it is being used by another process. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.File.InternalCopy(String sourceFileName, String destFileName, Boolean overwrite) at DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.FileSystemUtils.CopyFile(String sourceFileName, String destFileName) at DotNetNuke.Services.Installer.Util.CopyFile(InstallFile installFile, String basePath, Logger log) at DotNetNuke.Services.Installer.Installers.FileInstaller.InstallFile(InstallFile insFile)

How to I get around this problem?

Try restarting the application from the host settings menu, then try again.
