Hi there.  So far, love the active social module!  Have a couple clients interested in social networks and will definitely be pitching this to them before ning or social go.

Quick question, is there a relatively easy way to integrate video into the profile?  Like using Ultra Video Gallery or something.  I can obviously just install that module but wanted to know if there was a way to indicate on the user's profile page that they had uploaded videos.

Come to think of it, the same goes for audio files as well.

Oh yeah, one more thing, sorry.  Can I integrate an events module like smart thinker events or something?

    Thanks,
    Justin

    Justin,

Get in touch with BizModules and let him know that you would like to see the ability to filter Video and Video Series by userid so that you can use it with Active Social. Many of us have already asked for this capability. Maybe you can get an updated status. The Ultra Media Gallery can be used as it already has filtering built in. I have implemented it on a test site, but I think the consensus from most people here is that the Photo and Audio Gallery (UMG) might be too powerful and a little too hard for the basic SN site user. But the UVG and UMG could work great for sites that maybe only have a few people using the tools to create content like training videos and audios that are only consumed by the other members of the site. Not sure about events, but I know that it is on the horizon in the AS Roadmap.

What are your thoughts on using UMG and UVG?

I wrote Pengsten over at BizModules and asked him about it. I think integrating his video gallery is okay since it's similar to youtube anyway (if set up correctly), although I really like what Will has done here with the simple photo upload/album manager and wonder if it could be replicated, just with videos instead of photos...

Any ETA on the events? I know a ning site that I manage relies very heavily on that feature.

    Thanks again,
    J

Bizmodules videos has been able to integrate with AS for many months. You can see it on this profile here

Rod, back in March I integrated Ultra Media Gallery (UMG) for photos without issue since it has a filter on it. I did the same with Ultra Video Gallery (UVG) but Pengsten said that Video Series could not be filtered by userid. I wanted my members on Homeschool Community to be able to create Teaching Series videos. Have you had any success with filtering Video Series. Pengsten said that he would work on filtering for Video Series but I have not had an update on that. I was also told at that time that UVG can be used for Audios as well as videos.

The real issue I had was that in previous releases the AS Welcome Center Login did not pass in the ASUID and also did not follow the DNN User Settings for Redirect After Login or Redirect After Registration. So early on the AS Login would only forward you to the Profile page, but did not pass in the UserId. So when you logged in and was forwarded to your profile, any tab with a 3rd party module that was filtered on ASUID would have no content. You would have to use the Member List or Welcome Center link back to your profile to get the ASUID to do the filtering.

Even though the AS Login still does not pass in the ASUID, I guess the ability to follow the DNN User settings for Redirects was fixed in a subsequent release and now I can have a page that members always go to once they login or register. My plan is to use this page to keep members informed about site upgrades, maybe put up some links to Polls, etc.

So yes Rod you are correct. Now that I have revisited all my emails and forum posts on BizModules I recall that the real issue was the AS Login module. So I do plan to offer at least UVG since it is tied into Amazon S3 already. Not sure if I want to go with UMG for Photos or use the AS Native Gallery.

It would be good to hear how well your users are able to use UVG and UMG if you are using both. Some think UMG is a little too difficult for the basic AS user (whoever that is). Also the fact that tying in the native Gallery to S3 in the future will be a big factor.

Hopefully this little bit of history was useful. I am glad that you prompted me to revisit UVG and to discover that the Redirects work properly now. Rob, I have said it before, but I will say it again. I am glad that you are onboard with AS as you bring in a lot of good experience and will help us all in making AS as good as it can be.

Hmm - I have not tried Video SERIES filtering so I can't comment, but I thought they used the same template/module view?

Ah, so you log in then construct a URL? I use a Profile tab (log in on PokerDIY to see what I mean) - I have 2 versions of the profile page - one on the profile tab where everything is set to Logged In and the other is a public player profile where everything is set to Passed In. They are very similar but the logged in one is more like a dashboard for the user like FB.

Interesting comments on UMG - it's great for a central site gallery mod but not so useful for pics for leagues/games/groups/social networking. The AS one seems to have better integration but I have not looked at it in detail. There is the other one from ZLDNN I think which shows potential too. I really need to spend some time playing with all 3!

Thanks Cliff, I see great potential in the AS modules and am happy to share my experiences with PokerDIY/ST etc. where it can help.
    thanks

I am about to head to get some sleep. But I think I spoke too soon on the AS Login. It does send me to the Redirect After Login and Redirect After Logout pages that I specify in the User Settings.

But it does not Redirect to the proper page after Registration. It still goes to the profile page. This is considered Part Two of the AS Registration process so they can begin to build their profile before they actually validate their account. But supposedly they only get a limited role assigned so that they cannot post to forums, etc until verified.

So maybe it does not matter that they go to the Profile page after Registration since they will not really have any content at that point in any of the 3rd party module tabs. And once they register, they will use the Login from then on, which does indeed send them to a specified page on my site.

Rod, maybe you could do a quick registration on my site and put in a little info on your profile. Then logout and log back in to see that you show up on a mostly blank page where I have noted that I can add in site instructions or urgent news. From that page, my video tutuorial will instruct them to always use their link or image link at the top right to access their profile or messages.

Let me know what you think.

    Cliff
