    Hi there,

I’m wondering if there is a way we can use Active Social, or integrate another module, which will enable us to track our users on site activity. We’d like to gather information such as:

    Pages visited,
    Logon activity,
    Friendship activity,
    Forum posts, replies,
    Blog number and frequency,
Blog popularity ( based on number of responses posted on a users blog)

We want to collect this information so we can see which parts of our site are most popular but then also be able to tailor our correspondence with our users based on their activity. Obviously this information is also helpful for potential advertisers and investors in the site.

Will there be an “active blog” module any time soon which will integrate with Active Social and Active Forums?

    Thanks,
    Donovan

    Hi Donovan,

The statistics that are new to AS1.7 provide you with some detail (not sure whether this will cover all your requests or not).

Will there be an “active blog” module any time soon which will integrate with Active Social and Active Forums?

This should be integrated in Active Forums 5 but I have no idea when this will be available. As for the number of blogs and blog popularity this most probably will require some additional programming in the AS statistics section.
    Regards,
    Marc

As most of the data you need will be stored in the DNN database in various tables you simply need to define your query then use a module such as Netism Satellite Extreme to run the query and present the data.

If you just want to run activity reports then the DNN reports module can be used.

The hard part is defining what you want to report on and locating the data in the tables.

Bruce Chapman over at Ifinity has some Site Log reports that might be usefull; http://www.ifinity.com.au/Blog/Entr...s-and-more

The User Visit Detail might give you a good starting point for tracking which users visted which pages etc.

    Thanks guys,

Will take a look at your suggestions and report back in case someone else is looking for this type of solution. We are also going to look at whoson (http://www.whoson.com/) and see what they can offer and how it may work with DNN

    Cheers,
    Donovan

    Hey Donovan,

Did you ever find a satisfactory solution for tracking user stats with Active Modules?

    Thanks!

    Cheers,

    Hi Corinne,

We never settled on an external module. Instead I simply wrote some SQL queries into our skin ASCX files. These then basically capture userID, dateTime, tabID/Name and other variables and just drop them into a DB for us to mine later.

Not what we were looking for but it's filling the gap. In the process of migrating from DNN 5 to 6 and will look at it all again then.

    Thanks,
    Donovan
