I've recently added the comment controls to the "photo" templates that get displayed in the journal when a user posts a photo using the journal tools. Seems comments can be added and viewed at site, group, or profile journals and are shown across all views correctly.
Comments posted at the journal don't show in photo comments under the gallery, which is fine. But I just wanted to make sure I'm not jumping the gun and will cause issues further down the road with implimenting comments at the journal level for photos. I'm still testing.

We would like to eventually merge both, but when a journal entry can display multiple photos and the comment is tied to the journal entry, not photo...it becomes difficult.

Still not quite sure if this has any ill effects though. I don't think it would because it is the comment control from the journal rather than the actual comment control from gallery. It should simply become obsolete or blend in if there are any code changes. But I don't know.
