We are primarely looking for good Newsletter modules and are considering, DataSprings, Onyateks Axon or going for Aweber.
Axon has a good offer out.. Anyone having comments or any experience with these modules?

Hi Frank, I am not sure if this works still like this but in the past the Onyatek has seperated the DLLs from the module because the modules became too big. Instead there was a DLLl library "module" which uploaded all DLLs for all the modules at once while you only require a number of them for Axon. This approach, IMHO, increases the DLL hell in the bin folder and unnecessarily increases the initial loading of ones DNN installation. Chris kindly made a list of DLLs required for the Axon module (its predecessor actually) and has placed this on his forum. I only have limited experience with the predecessor of Axon (NukeAlert I believe it was) because I never got to the point of implementing it fully. Beside the note I previously made this module seemed to be OK. I have no experience with Opt-in or Aweber so I can't compare it with Axon but I am sure others will jump in to provide you with that info. |

I have yet to find a good email newsletter module. I've used a few and they all seem to have limitations. The biggest issue seems to be performance. As soon as you get up into the 20,000 + emails things really slow down. I would also like to re-use existing DNN content (build a newsletter page in DNN using things likst "Latest Posts", "Latest Properties", Latest Articles", Latest Videos", etc. and make that my newsletter) Most modules seem to require that you build the newsletter as HTML each time. |

I've been heavily leaning toward Bulk Emailer from Interactivewebs.com.au.. I may use their trial this weekend to send out my newsletter.. |

Agree with you there Steven - having dynamic multimedia content in your newsletter is something we want as well, instead of creating this from scratch every time. Shad, keep us updated how you Bulk Emailer works out. We are looking at that one too! Axon say they can send more than 100 000 in one mailing with no problem, but I am a little skeptical as the DNN forums also have been complaining about lacking support from Onyak. I think we will do some testing of both Axon and Bulk Emailer, but fear we have to bite the bullet and go for a third party solution like Aweber. The drawback is that we will have @aweber.com as a sender. Is anyone familiar with a similar solution (which can handle 100 000+) where you can use your own domain as a sender? |

"Active Campaign" huh? Certainly lines up with the "Active" theme around here |

I just sent out my first newsletter using the Bulkmailer module over the weekend. My thoughts are here: http://renovatingmls.blogspot.com/2009/04/newsletters.html |

I spent a little time looking at Axon, Bulk Emailer, and AWeber and have to say I'm not seeing a reason to switch from 12all. It seems much more full featured and mature than Axon and Bulk Emailer. If AWeber really requires you to send using an email from their domain, well, that's just silly. You'd be better off going with one of the other SAAS bulk email solutions like Constant Contact, MarketVolt, Campaign Monitor, or Exact Target. |

We have been using Constant Contact for several years. On another note, if I were sending bulk emails for my business and I needed reliability, I would not depend on ANY module that runs within my own web application. The web app process is not something really designed for long running background processes. |

My current list would cost me $75 per month for constant contact. That's a lot of dough for 1 or 2 emails per week. Compared to a 1 time payment of about $100 I think I know which way I'll be going. Maybe in the future when ad rates are better, but I just don't see CC as worth all that dough. |

I can certainly understand that perspective. You know that Active Forums with the mail queue enabled and auto subscriptions can handle sending mass emails very well. You just don't get the detailed analysis that some other tools provide. |

FYI: We endend up buying the whole OnyakTech module suite w/source code for around 200 dollars. Good deal I would say. I've also read that the customer support from OnyaTech was supposed to be bad, but I think Chris is doing a good job. E-mails have been answered quickly with good content information.

I have gotten great use out of the modules OnyakTech has. Chris does try to get back to you as soon as he can...but he is quite busy. I started to check out Axon...but there is one drawback with most of OnyakTech modules...they start out sort of with an expectation that you know certain things. Being totally self-taught in most of what I do with web designing, I tend to not have the basic knowledge that seems to be "common sense" in this web design world. With my limited time and limited skills at the time I was checking it out, I lost patience real quick. I do intend to check it out more when I have a little more time, though. It looks like exactly what I am looking for as well. I am currently looking for something that would offer my clients the opportunity to send out newsletters on a regular basis that maybe works similar to something like MailChimp...with templates, etc...that is user-friendly...without that monthly expense. I want to provide that capability as one of the selling points of going with my company for all their online needs. Will - you said "...I would not depend on ANY module that runs within my own web application." This is a concern for me...because I want to provide my clients with the ability to do whatever they need for their business or organization from their own site...whether it be sending out newsletters, or having forums, sales, subscribers, tracking clients, whatever... There has to be a way to do it...and I would think that way would be more likely with DNN, simply because of how DNN works. Am I wrong? |
