Currently in order to validate a profile field based on a regular expression you also have to require it, this will cause our users to need to enter 7 fields that they be clueless about, including google adsense ID and a bunch of URL's, just to complete a registration or edit their profile. I request this is change so required validation is based on the dnn core checkboxes and not the existence of a regex. Thank you, Jason

I concur 100% with this request. Why was it decided that AS would depart from core DNN behavior in this respect? If we want a field to be required, we will mark it required; if we put in a regexp validation pattern, that should NOT make the field required. It should only require that if the user inputs data into the field, that it conform to the supplied pattern. Please change this designed behavior in AS to match the DNN controls ... Thank you!

Great news. Forgive my grumpiness. It's a grumpy day in this office. We've got 1.7.3 installed, and the behavior persists. Is there a config to switch it on / off?

As noted, we have AS 1.7.3 installed. We created a custom DNN profile property with a regular expression mask to govern format of input data. It is NOT marked mandatory in the DNN profile definitions. It IS marked visible. AS treats it as if it were mandatory and will not let people update their profile without providing a value in this custom profile property field. Not everyone will have a value to put there, which is why we don't make it mandatory. Please advise ... thank you.

Was just doing a search on this exact issue when I started plugging in some regex myself. My current AS version 1.7.2 I've read the release notes and appears to have been resolved in 1.8.x. I guess it's time to get on board with the latest release. Active Social 01.08.00 Release Notes - September 8, 2010 FIX - Resend verification fails. FIX - Group categories doesn't decode encoded characters properly. FIX - Member search for account values returns all records when no records are found. FIX - Profile validation with regular expressions and non-required fields FIX - Security update for enforcing journal content FIX - Security update for Gallery FIX - Security update for Messaging FIX - GroupInfo tab fails to load when using a custom group type template Just letting everyone know in case they are having same issue and are on an older AS version.
