    • Type of Feedback: Something I want
I have posted this 3 times now, i have no clue why it keeps getting deleted. Am i breaching some ethical boundary here?

My users to my new site are very confused as to why then can see the "Leave a Comment" textbox on their AS Summary page and yet not see in in threads they are involved in on other walls. This is quite unintuitive. When one is trying to gain quick and easy adoption by novice users who are used to another major social site, this sort of impedance sorely stands out.

Can any help my understand why this is so? I myself don't get it, so i cannot expect others to understand.

    drew..

ps: taking a snap of this post to remind myself that indeed i posted it

    Moved to feature requests.

It's actually a bug that we are trying to track down with the permissions on the comment box within the summary. The behavior that you see on the profile and groups is correct. The ability to comment is controlled by the user.

Thanks Will. I anxiously await this fix as i need to turn every tire-kicker into a convert and this is certainly causing feedback at my end.

Can you explain what you mean by this:

" The ability to comment is controlled by the user."

i finally got around to this, and realized the currently defaulted setting is what is causing this to happen. I just tested this and set a user's Journal settings to allow friends to comment, and the email link was fine, allowing me to add comments directly. This is a HUGE usability issue

I have only 100 or so users at present but surely don't want to edit each. Will, can you tell me exactly where this setting is within the data model? I will persuse it myself of course, but if you know, and are here, if you let me know, i can sql it all to be more user-friendly.

*May i politely suggest this out-of-the-box default be altered to allow friends to comment on journal entries? This is how fb does it and my folks are expecting it  .. many thanks! drew..

ok, i think i narrowed it down to [AddComments] in activesocial_User and it seems to do what i need, but i just wanted to be sure i am not making incorrect assumptions. I simply want everyone to have this setting to Friends ..

    cheers, drew..

The default is friends. As I mentioned previously, there is a bug that causes a different behavior because the wrong setting is being evaluated in code. It is fixed for 1.9.

And finally, i do not see where to make this adjustment so that each new user gets this AddComments=1 as the default setting.

Thank YOU very much for this.
