    • Type of Feedback: Something I want
Has anyone attempted to augment the Summary View to be more of a dashboard? There is valuable screen real estate being wasted and could so easily render what the typical user wants: one place to be a focus. Currently we must create dnn menu items to encapsulate reach the other AS function points (inbox, member lists, groups etc). Once again, fb rears its' dominant head here. Users do not want to use menus. So, consider this following image:

You have a long list of filtering options which (at least in my opinion) should be found in a dropdown. Then you have links and text taking up a whole row when i bet 98% of all buttons clicked are Status or Share Link (the others could be a dropdown.. think Mac usability here). The text box is set to a crazy indent and should be wider. But the crux of my wish here is simple: give us a admin toggle that will allow us to include AS-oriented buttons that will take the user directly to all the various areas of AS purview. There is so much empty white space below the Post button level that it could easily fit there.

These buttons would be a snap to add for the AS gurus, and would save us much dnn-related tasking to get folks around.

And finally, while i am at it, once a user makes a selection of the scope of visibility for a post, auto-close the dropdown..

    thanks for listening, drew..

    Drew,
You can do something like that by modifying the template. I've had versions of your idea on BikeClicks on and off for a while. The main issue I ran into was that access to these "buttons" was limited to page with the journal view on them. Recently I've been moving to a control panel concept....actually a site wide "toolbar" that give members access to everything from one consistent place.

In fact, Jeff Blanks has pioneers some concepts here: http://www.activemodules.com/active...tom-views/ which I'm extending for my site.

PS - I agree that the filter could be in a drop down list

Hey Steven, thanks for the links. I will clearly need to get into customizations soon as i have so many outstanding requests ;0 .. i try so hard to stay away from this path as i have so many other business requirements to deal with, but.. i guess if i keep suggesting, i should be willing to get my hands dirty eh?

For me, re the UI, i am so used to the mac, where the look & feel are every bit as important as functionality, i find my windows experiences more and more sort of blah. Thus my comments to try and improve (from my perspective of course) the general experience. I know my thoughts don't resonate with everyone, but hell, i am used to that ;)

I'm a [new] Mac user as well and completely understand. Also, the big sites like FB and Groupon and Linked in have "trained" users so well that the expectation is very high. Most of us don't have a big team to work on UX all day....but one of the best features of AS is it's ability to be templated and changed without core code changes.

    Dive in!

    Customization! Customization! Customization!

    No physical boundaries!

Roll it out to your liking and Shoot To the Stars!

Can anyone short-circuit the labyrinth of finding out where to go to update the image i posted above? I really miss the days of good ole CHM files or single pdf's for documentation. This AF-style kb absolutely sucks for general usage.
