Is it possible to set the default Journal Security option to Everyone?

When I attempt this in Control Panel and save, the setting reverts to Community/Everyone!

Also, does this setting apply to other journal entries (i.e. UVG4) if not specified in the app?

One additional question.  Is it possible to add a status message to the Journal via SQL?  iF SO, Is there a post or example some where?

I am interested in this as well except, I want to disallow others by default from submitting notes on others' pages.

I think Rob is asking something different than Larry.

    Larry

In 1.9.1, Everyone and Community are two different options. I have been able to set my default to Everyone. Regarding other apps. I had to have someone add an option to their app so I could choose the security. It wasn't following my default settings in AS.

    Rob

You can set the default settings you are asking about by using the dropdown boxes for status, files, etc in Control Panel -> Journal -> Journal Options. If you want to change profiles that already exist you have to click the link Click to Reset All User Profiles.

    Thanks for the feedback!!

I got it working as desired. It is a bit confusing though. It seems that 1) In AS ControlPanel Journal Options you have to build the user's option list on the right and then click the value you wish to be the default on the left

What causes the confusion is that when Everyone is the only value in the options list, the security drop-down adds the Community option to the top of the list. In addition, even though Everyone is indeed the default, Community is listed first in the security drop-down and none of the options are checked to indicate which is the default. End-users just have to "know" (never a good thing).

Of course, they can always check the desired option, but the idea of a defaukt is to skip that step most of the time.

    Will:

Suggestion for improvement: On first drop-down the default should be checked After doing this a few times users will "learn" what he default is and stop dropping the list. AND when Admins change the default, they will have visual confirmation that the change was successfully completed. The only way that I could be sure that my default was set was to post a dumy entry and then logout to see if "everyone" could see it.

I agree, it would be great if the default for journal items was checked when a user clicks the lock icon when posting.

I am in the middle of configuring journal items for UVG. It appears to me that UVG is hardcoded to post journal entries with Community only security. Anyone else agree or disagree?

    I agree.

There is a big privacy issue when it comes to videos because they are displayed in the activity tab without an option to make them private or friends only. In addition, it is impossible to make the activity tab friends only without affecting the other tabs.

This has been raised many times now and I think Will & Co. are working on it (at least the profile/activity privacy/security) . Hopefully, in the next release we will see this "fixed".  Not 100% sure whether Will & Co. can do anything about the UVG security though.
I am using the latest AS/AF/DNN available.
    Thanks.

Larry, the best way to do this would be through the journal API: http://www.activemodules.com/active...ofileitem/

As far as UVG...each module developer might implement the journal API they way THEY want it to work. For what it's worth, I'm a big advocate in making each implementation something that at least each Admin can configure they way THEY want it to work and in the best case, the user can select options when they do something.

The journal API gives third parties the options but they need to implement those options.
