It appears that the [AS:MESSAGE:CHECK] token is not rendering in the Inbox. Anybody else having this issue? How is a user supposed to mark a message/notification as read.

That token was disabled with 1.5. It will be removed from the default templates in 2.0. Messaging is getting a major overhaul that should be ready next month.

Thanks Will.
So in short, at present there is no way to mark a message/notification as read?

If you read the message, it will be marked as read. Notifications are usually acted upon or deleted. After which it will be marked as read.
