As with facebook, there are many things for users to do other than look at pictures and users profiles..

So my question is, does anyone have any ideas how we can incorporate some 3rd party game sites, and some how link AS profile into a gaming solution, which you can use to invite friends, compete with friends etc...

I am very interested if this can also integrate with a points system, that works with AF points, so it can all work together.  The more games you play, the more points you receive, similar to a forum post..

Then there will be a redeem area for points.

    Adam,

Lee Sykes of dnncreative.com had an article a while back about how to integrate flash games in your DNN portals.

    http://www.dnncreative.com/Tutorial...fault.aspx

He charges a reasonable price for access to his site which gives you access to all of his video tutorials as well...he does a good job and it's worth the money IMO.

You can even check out a few of the games he's integrated for demonstration/your playing pleasure

That article doesn't include how to capture high scores, challenges, etc.

For this to work you have to have a game that captures high score data. This requires editing the flash file and understanding the scripting.

Second, you then need to write a php, asp, perl, etc script to take that information and store it somewhere, xml file, database, etc.

Then you have to figure out a way to display that information so users can see it and then enable them to challenge one another, etc.

There are workable solutions in the php world but I haven't really seen anything in the asp.net world. There is a really good solution for Joomla which I played with for a while and was really good but Joomla lacked the role, module and security features of DNN>

@ Adam: Great subject! The redeem area for points is a very good idea. What would be your top 3 content for that?

We are in the process of developing this right now for our Silverlight games, with integrated AS messaging/challenges + scores/results (as an AS tab) + ranking/latest results.

We haven't catered for any activity points though, but we are going for a "Brain Performance %", which measures the improvement you have had since you started playing the different games, and also gives you a global Brain performance score on your profile (for all the games). The scores, activities and challenges are also published to your profile journal. We have completed about 50%. If people are interested, I'll upload a coupon giving free access to AS members when our English version is out ...

We are very keen on creating some game activity points + integrating these with the AF activity points. Haven't looked into that yet, so would be great with some tips there ...

@Terry - thanks for the tips. We are members of DNNCreative already, but hadn't seen those links before.

@Michael - hear you, we went from joomla to DNN for the same reasons as well....

I'd be interested to hear the reasons why you guys switched from Joomla. I am heading to a conference next week and I know there will be dozens of Joomla zealots there and I would like a little more information on what they are talking about. Talk to me via PM, no need to take this thread toooo far off topic. *grin*

    Just chiming in...

I am at the first stages of planning out a full points and "insignia" rewards system for my site.

The points will be based on:
    - Active Forums points sytem
    - Inviting friends to the site/new signup
    - Adding a friend
    - Joining a group

Groups will have total points of all members, encouraging people to add new members to their group and discuss their shared interests with  them. Points will be displayed on one of several insignia backgrounds reflecting your infividual intrest. This "points badge" will appear in profile, groups and forums.

this is the first wave of interactivity I have planned and would eventually like to do other things like "that was the best answer" rewards and some real world award tracking (we will be hosting or tracking real contests).

I like what you have started Travis..

I am all for those ideas..

Is this available in the current release for you to begin all this? Just curious?

I am actually going to give physical gifts to the special members, and I was thinking once they reach a certain target, they get X prize, and when they reach the next X level they can get the next prize.

I want to pay people for contributing and providing valuable information to the members, and forums..

But I like the idea of inviting friends..

All of it will be custom code for the front end, but 50/50 re-using what exists today in the DB. There is a lot there that can be "mashed up" to provide new value.

The most code will be creating and managing the invite to site, since I would like to track an ID or GUID during the link to sign up. My idea here is to generate a mail with a GUID in it and a link to the signup page. Then create a new module to add to the signup page that parses the URL querystring and stores the ID and email addy in a DB table. I have not yet figured out how to ensure the credit since the signup email address can be different from the one that the email was actually sent to but I'm sure I can come up with something workable when I can spend some more time on it.

@ Travis: Very exciting ideas and very similar to what we have in mind. The total group points was a new one, so thanks for that input :-)

Add-ons for our systems would be:
    - profile completeness points
    - our Silverlight learning game score/ranking/frequencey points
    - challenge points (how many times you have challenged other members/non-members)
    - member / learning partner search points + login points (not sure about these two yet)

@Adam: With you on the physical gift mailings! We plan on sending physical diplomas to our members after they reach a certain level in our brain training + knowledge games. I'd like to use postcards for this and either integrate it with Vertical Response, which we use for our newsletters (as they also send out real postcards). This way the fullfilment could be 100% automated.

We should consider "code-pooling" on this or start up an AS plugin area ;-)

Wow! I just came by this topic and need to do something similar for encouraging activity and sharing. Did you guys ever start a code-pooling group or an AS plugin area? I would like to participate and contribute where I can.
