Does anybody know why group tabs are not AJAX (as opposed to profile tabs)?

None of the tabs use Ajax. They are preloaded and then simply toggled with script. However, we even changed the default for profile tabs with 1.7. We are going to add Ajax loading soon. Not preloading the tabs results in faster initial page loads.

Will there be an option as to how tabs are loaded/rendered?
Ajax may impact on some 3rd party modules which are loaded into the profile/group tabs.
