    • DotNetNuke Version: 5.5.0
    • Active Social Version: 1.8.2
Admittedly, this is not a specific AS issue. But I know some people are using URL Master with AS and hopefully some have upgraded to DNN 5.5.

I did the DNN 5.5 upgrade and did not see any noticeable issues until I tried to add a module to a page and got an error. I am not going to present all of my research here, but apparently there was an issue with URL Master and DNN 5.5. A new version of URL Master is available for DNN 5.5. compatibility, but it suggests upgrading URL Master before DNN 5.5. Well that is too late for me.

I actually found this issue on another site I upgraded that used URL Master. So I am just curious if anyone has run up against this and how they resolved it. My site is not live, and I have good backups. So I can restore, upgrade URL Master and then do DNN 5.5 upgrade. But I thought I would just broach the subject here and see is anyone has ideas or has experienced this issue.

I tried a URL Master upgrade on another site that I upgraded to DNN 5.5. I could not access any pages on the site after that. I pinged Bruce but have not heard back from him. His site says to do the URL Master upgrade prior to DNN 5.5. But I had already done DNN 5.5. Frozen, is there any special process to upgrade URL Master? Thx.

    Cliff,

I did not see your reply until today so please excuse me for the delay. Have you figured this out yet? I am sure you have by now. Anyway, I was able to upgrade url master after I had already upgraded my DNN website. The only issue I had was adding new modules to the pages.

You can try commenting out url master from the web.config and then access the pages and remove the module all together. Then install it again? Please do the backup first. My friend once told me that real men do not backup their websites but they also cry a lot for not doing it. :)

Let me know how it goes.

Also, Bruce must be busy (with DNN speaking engagements and stuff. See DNN blog), otherwise he is pretty fast in getting back.

I am using the latest AS/AF/DNN available.
    Thanks.

I reverted to the default URL provider on my site prior to upgrading to 5.50. I have yet to turn it back on since the upgrade to see how the site performed. So, far it has been very good without it. URL Master is an excellent product, but on one of my installs, just is not necessary anymore.

@Frozen, I think my post was moderated for a while as I did not see it show up either. Since my site is not live I have not solved this. I had a lot of off site work to do in planning my launch. I think I will just try the URL Master upgrade and see if it works. If not I might just revert to my last pre-DNN5.5 backup and do the URL Master upgrade first and then if it is working do the DNN 55 upgrade. I will provide more feedback on what happens.

I ended up doing a quick restore of my PRE DNN 5.5 backup. Then I did the URL Master upgrade. Then I did the DNN 5.5 upgrade and everything seems to be working correctly. Hope this helps others.

Cliff - just to follow up, I've done a blog post covering off upgrading DotNetNuke (particularly 5.5 and the Url Master module).

The entry is here : DotNetNuke Upgrades and the Url Master module
