    Hi:

I just spent an inordinate amount of time trying to customize a journal template only to find out via a forum search that Custom Journal Templates may not be supported (date of post was early 2010).  I don't know if it is supposed to be now so I figured I'd check before I tear my hair out trying to figure out why my changes aren't working.

    Thanks very much.

Maybe I should specify what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to display just the images that are in the journals. Lets say the journal contains a set of stock chart images, I'd like to be able to display those images in a grid. Is the best way to do this a custom journal template or a custom view?

    Thanks.

I think you may be looking for this:
    http://www.activemodules.com/blogs/...l-journal/

Or, you can also modify the "journaltemplates.config" file directly, under DesktopModules/ActiveSocial/config as I do, but it's not advisable unless you are aware of how it's structured.
    Cheers! Jeff

    Oops!

Just re-read your post. I think you're gonna want a custom view. Have a look about 5 posts down at "Gallery Images List":

    Hi:

Thanks very much for your response.  I'll take a look at that.  You wouldn't happen to know of a resource that explains how all these template things combine together, would you?  I can find lots of places for templates but any modifications I make to any of the templates do not seem to affect anything.

Anyway, thanks for the response - I'm going to check into those things now.

Looks like you may have gotten the majority of your questions answered in some of your other recent posts. But if not, feel free to update.

    Cheers...

    Hi Jeff:

Thanks very much for circling back with me! You are correct, I have most of my questions answered. My only significant open question right now is how to get the RSS feed to add the first image to the summary journal view - right now it just shows the RSS title and that links directly to the website. I would prefer that the contents of the articles be held locally in AS (I own the copyright to the ones I plan on doing this with).

I suspect I may have to get someone to write a custom RSS reader for me but I'll cross that bridge after I understand a bit more about what the built-in AS RSS reader can do.

Any ideas you may have in this area would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks.
