I was wondering if anyone is using Amazon CloudFront with AS. As I understand it, CloudFront takes content served from an Origin Server and pushes out and caches requested content on edge servers so it is delivered quicker to end users. An origin server can be an S3 bucket or our own server. Is this kind of like what Akamai does? I would think this could work well for video or photo content in AS that is already hooked up to S3.

Thanks for any info on real world use or ideas anyone has on using this. Also let me know if it sounds like I am not correct on what CloudFront does or how it could be used with AS.

Based on the very minimal costs associated with S3, I would think it would be cost effective. But I haven't looked a a real scenario with decent traffic.

I don't use AS with CloudFront, but I do use S3 to store gigabytes of files that get streamed and it works rather nice. I don't think cloudfront is cost effective unless you have a lot of static content. IIRC cloudfront charges a fee on top of the S3 charges. S3, even with the RRS has been more than adequate for my needs.

Cliff...I've been using Amazon S3 for sometime now but not CloudFront...sounds intriguing. My only problem with S3 has been for users who access our content through a satellite modem...for some reason the latency causes pictures not to load from the S3 bucket.

I too use S3, but not CloudFront. S3 is a great way to service website content files and images. It also is a great way to store off-site back-ups with your favorite sync software or even the free S3 Browser.

I have been serving website files and images for about a year now on several sites and have not received a complaint from satellite users yet. Perhaps Terry would share any finding on that front.
