    Hi,

Upgrading to 4.2 from 4.1 . I have followed the steps in the KB article. The installation went fine with no errors reported, I went to the control panel and clicked a button, and got the ajaxy swirly deal and I am waiting...close to 30 mins now. I really dont want to screw anything up so I am scared to do anything...

    anyone else take that long?

It depends on the amount of content, number of forums, number of users and number of Active Social groups. I don't think I have seen an upgrade take longer than 15 minutes, but I did see a very small install take almost 5 minutes the other day. It is updating a bunch of records so your sql server can also be a factor.

If I think it has failed, I'll open another browser window and go straight to the event viewer. Don't go to the forums, just check the event viewer for any errors.

Thanks for the reply. I don't see any exceptions in SQL. To try again do I reinstall the package and give it another try?

You shouldn't need to reinstall. Just try to access the control panel and it should run the upgrade again.

Will, I really appreciate the help.

    1. is there any logging going on that I can check to see if its doing anything at all?
    2. What scripts do I run manually if I have no luck?

Drop the attached file in the root of your ActiveForums directory then hit the control panel again.

    Upgrade4x.txt

If you still think it is failing then delete the file from the root and run it from the host sql menu. Make sure you have execute as script checked. If it runs fine from the host sql menu, the restart the app and you should be all set.

Craziness...running it manually took about a minute and worked like a champ. Thanks Will! You saved me.

The last step of the upgrade is to delete that text file. I'm guessing it couldn't delete the file for some reason.

    Hi,
I am upgrading from ActiveForums Enterprise 3.7.8 to the current 4.3.5 version. Tech support has gotten me through the majority of the process, but they referred me to this post as I have the same swirly deal going for at least 20 minutes on a setup that has all of 2 posts and a total of 12 topics. Pretty light on the content... I will pick up with tech support again on Monday, but thought I'd make an inquiry here in the meantime.
I am pretty new to this and get lost in this conversation when you start talking about dropping the text document in the root of the directory (how do I get there and should I be messing with it if I don't know where it is?). My main question, though, is whether that text document is still relevant if the problem is occuring with version 4.3.5 since the original problem posted was from 4.1 to 4.2?
    Thanks!
