Is there any way for users to unsubscribe to a topic that they've been auto-subscribed to (based on a security role)? Thanks.

Users can't unsubscribe when they have been added to Auto Subscribe by role. However, this has been requested before and is worth considering for a future release.

Do you know of a SQL script that would allow us to subscribe everyone as if they were subscribing themselves in which case they could then unsubscribe if they wanted to?

I do not know of a script that would perform this.

What we've done is to create a Role and then set it up as Public and Auto-Assignment. That way every new user gets the role when they register on the site, but they can delete it if they want. When we get a SPAM complaint from their ISP, I remove the role from their account.

At one point I found a script that would add a Role to a list of users, because I had to do this for over 200 users and I did not want to do it by hand. I'll dig around and see if I still have it. I found it with Google, so you might want to try searching yourself.

Will, does it make sense for ActiveForums to have something like this? it might be a better way to handle "Auto-Subscribe", which really at this point is "Auto Email"...

I remembered how I handled this - I installed Bulk User Manager by PHDobson (Snowcovered) and used that to give a new Role to a group of users. Worked perfectly once I figured out how to use it correctly.
