I am trying to open the doors to my site more to new guests, enticing them to spend valuable online minutes at my offering. Polls seem like a great ticket in, but not if i tell them that they must register and verify in order to click a button to cast a vote. I don't see how to allow guests to vote as the poll only shows results. I realize this is bigger in scope than a recognized dnn user id, but it would surely allow the poll to be more of a "draw them in" tool by using cookies to recognize an already-voted situation. I have separate survey software for dnn, but am trying to limit the # of modules active on my site.

    thanks for any thoughts, drew..

"years" .. damn. It seems like an easy use-case to justify given the uphill battle we wage for online time!

At one point we did allow anonymous, but then use-case that was easy to justify was that customers didn't want anonymous people replying to polls. If we change it we would need to accommodate both.

with a captcha, a setting (per poll) to allow anon or not, and a cookie to track, we should be away to the races! I have many viewers on fb who will read my notes on my site, but converting them to hang around is tougher, these quick polls might get them to vote and to return to check continuing results.

I like this statement. However, I hope it happens soon.

I think you guys need to work a lot on the poll feature. It has a potential of becoming a good quiz module too. I think half of the work, to make it a simple quiz module, is already done.

awesome point, it is a very under-rated section of AF, and the docs seem to reinforce its' afterthought status. I would like to see the poll be augmented a bit to allow for Topic Properties to be part of each response. Use-case: i will have mostly vegans partaking in my polls, but the polls are open to non-vegans. I would love for the growing stats to reflect the added custom property list that i created which currently only displayed in the first, poll'd post in the thread. This would add n dimensions to the data and totally open the doors to real stats (think crosstab here). This would propel the simple poll into a world-class contender.. ok, that might be an exaggeration but you get the idea.  Hey Will: normally businesses pay consultants for all these great ideas.. you getm for free

Just because it's a great idea does not mean it's going to be implemented. Active Modules has a policy about feature request and number of members making the same feature.

So re: the poll feature, it's just you and me. So let's not flatter ourselves
