Since the last release or two, I'm having an issue on our forum where when you click on a thread (or after you add a new post to a multi-page thread) you are always taken to the first page.

This started as an annoyance, but it's beginning to become a real problem as you always have to manually click to go to the last page.

Is this a known bug, or do I have an issue specific to my install/configuration?

    Thanks all.

Wasn't NXBeats complaining about this ( a lot) and got moderated?

Was it this or something else? Not sure.
I am using the latest AS/AF/DNN available.
    Thanks.

I have the same problem and my users are complaining about it.

Frozen DNN is right about previous complaints in this forum and Activemodules promised to fix it. I actually think that it WAS fixed, but reoccurs in 4.3.5.

    I can not reproduce this.

Do you have friendly URLs enabled or disabled?
What does the URL on the page look like before and after you create a new reply?
Are you using quick reply or add reply?

I did a test on this website. I chose a thread with more than one page of posts.

    http://www.activemodules.com/active...tag-cloud/

I just posted a reply that you can see in the journal here and it took me back to page 1 of the thread.

Not sure if it matters, but I am using Newest First sorting in AF.

Newest first should always take you to the first page since that is where the newest post will appear.

OK. Just to be clear. To me, the first page of the thread is where the first post was actually made. In this case, it is Page #2 on the thread. So what I meant was that after make a new post on the thread I was taken back to Page 2 where the original post was made instead of to Page 1 where my new post was at.

    Here are my details:

    1) I'm set to oldest 1st (so new posts should be at the bottom of the last page).
    2) I'm using IIS & but I DO NOT have vanity URL's enabled.
    3) The problem happens on both quick reply and normal reply (I just tested it).
    4) The URL that you're taken to after a reply appears to be the plain topic URL. For example, here is the URL I was taken to after making a new post:

    http://www.greateriowareefsociety.o...fault.aspx

What do you have set for the default page size and what do you have set for your personal page size preference?

Forum default page size is 20. I had my personal set to 30 before, but I changed it down to 5 for testing.

I don't know if it matters or not, but at one point I had "Ajax" disabled in my personal settings. That option does not appear to be there anymore.

Here's another equally annoying issue that may be related. I've also noticed that whenever I go to a new thread with multiple pages, I'm always taken to the first page. In the past, it would have taken me to the 1st page with unread posts (at least I believe this to be the case).

In order to be taken to the newest post, you need to click the "First Unread" button.

Just clicking the name of the topic should take you to the first post.

Alternatively, you can enable "Jump to First Unread Post" under the My Preferences tab of your forum settings. This will act as if you clicked the button every time you click on the name of a topic.

    Ben,

Clicking on the button does work as you suggest, and that is the behavior that I would expect when clicking on a thread topic.

However, I DO have that option checked in my preferences, and it appears to be ignoring it.

Try changing your page size to match the default page size set in the control panel.

Changing back to the default seems to have resolved the issue. Definitely a bug, but an easy enough work around for now...

    Thanks guys!

It looks like the default posts per page is 20 on this site. I have my preference set to 20 as well. But I also have Newest to Oldest preference set. I want to note that with Newest to Oldest set I am still taken to the incorrect page when I click a link. Right now, my test post is on Page 3 of the Community Journal and it is about Tag Cloud. When I click that with Newest to Oldest I get sent to the page containing the original post and not the post I made today. With Oldest to Newest I go to the page with my post. Not sure if it is worth testing how it responds with more than two pages.

Can you confirm that this is an issue or let me know if I am misunderstanding something?

    Thanks.

Links from the Journal and links within Active Forums are completely different things. The link in the journal will always represent the default link that an anonymous user would see. It is not personalized based upon your settings. The only way to properly troubleshoot this issue is based upon links within Active Forums. For all our tests, which Ben reconfirmed today, everything within Active Forums is working as it should. This includes jumping to last read post and jumping to your topic after a reply.

Just to clarify, I do realize that the way URLs are handled by the journal can cause some confusion. We will be improving this behavior in the next major release of Forums.
