Below are the necessary steps as well as the templates needed to create a knowledge base view using Active Forums.
Creating the Templates
- Download the attached template files.
- Open the Templates section in the Active Forums Control Panel.
- Click the Add Template link button in the upper left corner.
- Enter "KB-TopicsView" in the text box for Title and Subject.
- Select "TopicsView" from the drop down box for Type.
- Copy the contents of KB-TopicsView.txt into the text box for HTML.
- Click Save.
- Click the Add Template link button in the upper left corner.
- Enter "KB-TopicView" in the text box for Title and Subject.
- Select "TopicView" from the drop down box for Type.
- Copy the contents of KB-TopicView.txt into the box for HTML.
- Click Save.
Configuring the Forum
- Create a new forum or edit open an existing forum in the forum editor of the Active Forums Control Panel.
- Select "KB-TopicsView" for the Topics Display Template.
- Select "KB-TopicView" for the Topic Display Template.
- Click the Security Tab.
- Enable Tag, Categorize and Priority for the roles that will be creating topics.
- Click Save.
Creating Categories
- Open the Categories section of the Active Forums Control Panel.
- Enter the name of your first Category in the Category Name text box.
- Select the forum where this Category will be used.
- Click the Save Button to add the category.
NOTE: Simply click the large categories button at the top of the Control Panel to create a new category.
Creating Content
- Exit the Active Forums Control Panel.
- Click on the forum that has been assigned the new templates.
- Click the Add New Topic button.
- Enter a Subject.
- Summary is optional.
- Enter the main body for the topic.
- Expand the Tags section to enter any keywords that may apply to this topic. Note: Separate each word with a comma.
- Expand the Categories section to selected the categories that should be assigned to this topic.
- Click Save.
