howdy, i am finding the tokens limiting for this nice module. Links are imperative, yet only the one token has a link for each new post listed. This should actually be a separate checkbox, allowing us to render a link for each if we like. The subject link should also have a limiting number of characters as subject lines can easily be too long to list. Currently, unless i give it prominence on my main page, it becomes a confuse mess of extended lines and fully adjusted text. This is a perfect module for a smaller left column on a main page, or elsewhere, but not as a central column focus.
All the ID tokens are fairly un-enduser-friendly.. a few more links, a few more shortened listings etc would make this very usable.
thanks for listening, drew.. |

as a further question relating to this, is the currently seen display of new forum posts that is featured in the central column of this forum a customized version of the module i am asking about? Forgive me please if this is a rtfm-type question, but it is not clear from the module itself how to accomplish such a layout, if possible. drew.. |

Drew, this is using a custom view from Active Social. It's basically the summary filtered down to just forum posts and replies |

Hi Steven, Just a quick question for you...how do you filter on more than one item (topic and reply)? I've been trying to figure this out as well. Thanks |

Drew, a few initial concepts (not well thought out or compared to your specific implementation) might be: If security is not an issue (you don't have the need to "hide" posts from users without specific forum security then an RSS reader might give you more HTML control. Otherwise some crafty CSS could help with (see: http://www.quirksmode.org/css/texto...flow.html) Then of course the Active Social summary view but that would assume you have AS on your site. |

hmm.. interesting..i do have a few private forums that are limited to specific roles. I am more of a database/erp guy than an html/css guru, so the second thoughts might not be efficient for me..
I do have AS, this is the focus of the site actually. So if i read you correctly, drop a summary view and filter for forum posts? Thanks for helping out.. drew.. |

I am more of a database/erp guy than an html/css guru Ha, I used to do that a long time ago. Worked for Epicor Software back in the day (formerly Platinum Software). The CSS isn't as hard as you think but the AS Summary would be the fastest path to what you want (I think) |

Steven.. i am playing around with the AS Summary view and it seems that it is filtered by the logged in profile, which would eliminate it from this general purpose display i need on the front page of my site, as this needs to be like the What's New module, showing all new posts within selected forums.
This leads me back to my original wish of a separate checkbox for this AF module that simply renders each listed post as a direct link back to the post itself. This just seems too reasonable . As well an added Subject token that limits the # of characters displayed.
thanks for any thoughts, drew.. |

Where is the template for the AD Summary located? I assume that checking only Forum and Forum Replies in the AS Control Panel Journal area limits displayed itemss in the Summary View, right? So if you do this, you cannot use the AS Summary on another page to display other items i.e. Links. |

gently bumping this topic, hoping for some kind hint from management etc that would allow me to tweak something on my side to allow links to be formed for some of the listings for the What's New module. It is soo perfect for my main page, but *not* as a center column piece, and it is too wide for the sides with the SubjectLink token.
Thanks Will et al for any thoughts on this. drew.. |

Additional tokens would need to be added to accommodate your needs. Adding a token for the ability to control the length of a subject is something we have been meaning to add. You will see that capability in the next feature release. |

thanks Will.. That is a good step. If you have the time or inclination, an even better step is an option within the What's New module, separate from the actual token selected, to make each displayed row an actual link to the post it is displaying. This would make it world-class. thanks, drew.. |

I have an AS Social Summary on a page using the default template. In the AS Control Panel in the Available Journal Tpes area, I have Forum Topics abd Forum Replies checked in the "Summary" column. However, the Social Summary displays "No Items Found". What am I doing wrong? |
