    Hi all,

I'm sorry if this has been addressed before. I've been searching through the forums and haven't found my specific problem.

I've been brought in to webmaster a corporate site (replacing the person before me.)

The problem: the Message Boards have not been moderated at all, and are:

    1) Completely disorganized
    2) HUGE.
    3) My users have opened a General Discussion Forum for EVERY Forum they have meaning I'll have one forum, and one within it - which means lots of folders filled with nothing. It will be - as an example FOLDER: Sally's Daily Tips: FOLDER: General Discussion: Topics

    My questions are:

    1) How can I make it so that users can create topics, but not forums within forums and
    2) How can I make it so that all of my Forum Groups are visible? Do I have to go in and delete forums in order to do it?

Thank you for your help, and again, sorry for any repetition.

    Meg

    Meg,
Welcome (I think) to your new role.

Active Forums can be organized into Forum Groups and then Forums within those Groups. One additional level allows you to create SubForums within Forums

    Forum Group A
    -- Forum 1
    -- Forum 2
    ---Sub Forum x
    ---Sub Forum y
    --Forum 3
    Forum Group B
    ...etc

Users can create posts within the existing structures you've setup (or will setup). Who can see what , who can post, who can reply, edit, delete, etc is all controlled using the security for each forum group, forum or sub group (they can also inherit security from above).

I would recommend reading the administrator guide to get a handle on the basic forum setup and administration.

    Hi Steven,

Thank you so much for replying. Can you guide me to the Administrator Guide as I don't have one.

    Thanks,
    Meggy

    Hi Steven,

I have been reading the 31 page Guide and I still can't find any way to take away user permissions to create forums. Would you happen to know how I can do this?

    Thanks.

User's permission to create forums? User's cannot create forums in ActiveForums, unless they are creating groups via ActiveSocial.
I am using the latest AS/AF/DNN available.
    Thanks.

Frozen is right. By setting user permissions users can create "topics" within forums. But forums are created/managed through the control panel which should only be accessible to the site Admin. Do your users have "Admin" or "Edit" privileges to the site/page/module?

    Hi Steven and Frozen,

I believe that when my message boards were created (before I was hired) Admin Access was given to a number of users. I need to find out who to contact in order to take away their permissions.

    Thanks,
    Meggy

    Meggy,
If you are the admin on this site now (if you are you'll see the Admin menu and the control panel on top of the site when you log in)...then you can remove these privileges from those users.

    Admin | User Accounts
    Search for the User
    Click on the edit icon
    Click on the Roles link
    Remove Admin from their account
