Learn how to properly create and manage Coupons and Discounts within Active Purchase
Active Purchase offers several options for configuring discounts and products. Please become familiar with each field before offering a discounts and coupons on your site.
Description – This field is simply to provide you with an easy way to identify various coupons and discounts on your site.
Discount Code – A discount code is a way for you to provide potential customers with a unique code to apply to purchase during the checkout process.
Require Discount Code – If this box is not checked, Active Purchase will attempt to automatically apply this discount to the users order during the checkout process. The most common scenario for not requiring a discount code would be for when you offer a discount to on a certain product or service to everyone on your site.
Start Date – Each discount or coupon must have a start date. This field can be used to schedule the start of a particular promotion.
End Date – Each discount or coupon must also have an end date. This field can be used to set an expiration date for a particular coupon or discount.
Amount – Enter the flat fee that you would like be applied for the discount. For example, if you entered 5.00 then 5.00 would be deducted from the user’s total purchase.
Percentage – Enter the percentage amount that you would like to be applied for the discount. For example, if you entered a value of 5 then the user’s total purchase would reflect a 5% discount.
Max Use Per User – Enter the maximum number of times a single user can use this discount. Enter a value of 0 for unlimited number of uses.
Max Use Total – Enter the maximum number of times this discount can be used by all customers. For example, if you entered a value of 10 then the discount would no longer be valid after the first 10 customers. Enter a value of 0 for unlimited number of uses.
Restriction – Each discount can have various restrictions applied. This is simply a way to ensure that the user meets certain criteria to receive the discount.
- None – Discount can be used without any restrictions.
- Product – Discount will only be valid if the user is purchasing a particular product. Products are defined under the Applies to Products tab.
- Product within Date – Discount will only be valid if the user has purchased a product previously within a specific date range. Qualifying products and date ranges are defined under the Qualifying Purchases tab.
- Member of Role – Discount will only be valid if the user is a member of a particular security role. Qualifying security roles are defined under the Restrict by Roles tab.
Enabled – This must be checked in order for a discount to be valid.
Usage Count – This will display the number of times a discount has been used.
Setting up Discount RestrictionsRestrict by ProductAdding a Product Restriction
- Click the “Applies to Products” tab.
- Select the product for which you wish to apply this discount from the drop down list of products.
- Click the green “Add” image.
Removing a Product Restriction
- Click the “Applies to Products” tab.
- Click on the trash can icon next to the product you wish to remove.
- A message will appear asking you to confirm your delete action.
- Click “Ok” or “Cancel” to take the desired action.
Qualifying PurchasesAdding a Qualifying Purchase restriction
- Click the “Qualifying Purchases” tab.
- Select the qualifying product purchase from the drop down list of products.
- Enter the dates between which this product should have been purchased.
- Click the green “Add” image.
Removing a Qualifying Purchase restriction
- Click the “Qualifying Purchases” tab.
- Click on the trash can icon next to the qualifying product purchase restriction you wish to remove.
- A message will appear asking you to confirm your delete action.
- Click “Ok” or “Cancel” to take the desired action.
Qualifying Security Roles Adding a Qualifying Security Role restriction
- Click the “Restrict By Role” tab.
- Select the qualifying role from the drop down list of security roles.
- Click the green “Add” image.
Removing a Qualifying Security Role
- Click the “Restrict by Role” tab.
- Click on the trash can icon next to the qualifying security role you wish to remove.
- A message will appear asking you to confirm your delete action.
- Click “Ok” or “Cancel” to take the desired action.
