Nine more days, Kossut! We have waited for such a long time and it looks great! With all these features I can only imagine how much hours Will and Co. must be putting in to get this out. All we had to do was sit and pull our hairs while waiting.

I'll probably use this time for translations of AF41 and DNN5 from Eng. to Pol. and prepare old environment to final migration...

Will:

How will a directory of users work -- will there be one? I'd like for users to search for other users by certain critera such as "all users with PhD's in Solar Energy", where Degree and Area of Research would be fields in their profile. Will that be possible?

Thanks,
Lon

Lon,
We will need to do a better job of explaining this in the features list. Yes, there is a directory/member list view which you can completely customize. You have basic and advanced search options. Basic is a simple text box that will search against a few fields that you define. Advanced allows the user to create a more specific search, again, choosing from profile fields that you want them to be able to search against.

will active social contain forums and messaging with in it, or will we still need to have those individual modules?

Active Social will includes a very unique messaging and notification system. Take a look at the Notifications and Private Messaging section above. Active Social also includes Active Forums Enterprise. Active Forums will be used for forums and few other features within Active Social. Most of this will be very transparent to you.

Included Group Modules: Journal, Comments(Wall), Gallery, Forums, Forum Activity, Members

What's the purpose of having a group wall and a group forum? Don't they do the same thing? Is the wall for some other reason, like rating the group or something?

Honestly, the wall is there for marketing reasons. I think most people will prefer the forum integration with groups, but most are not familiar with that concept. If you look at facebook you can see how you can have a Wall and Discussions on the same page. In actual use, I think having both will confuse your users.

If someone asks us if we have a "Wall" capability it's easier to say yes, than to say no and try to explain how a forum is better.

I am sure it will work, but I want to ask it anyways. Will MC work with a group forum? Will the group forum automatically created as soon as a member creates a group?

Will a member assigned a role when/if he/she joins the group? Will a new role be created when a member creates a group?

This is all for autosubscriptions.

I agree Wall and Forum on the same page/for the same group is confusing. Maybe, if possible, one can use the wall for rating the group and for recommendations and use forum for group discussion. But. honestly, members are going to get confused and use wall and forum for everything and anything.

Thanks Jason

Frozen:
Will MC work with a group forum?

Yes, but we haven't set this up yet.
Will the group forum automatically created as soon as a member creates a group?

Right now that is the default option. You can also link a group to forum. We want to add an option where you can allow the group admin to create the forum, but that may not make into the first release.

Changing the order of your questions
Will a new role be created when a member creates a group?

If you enable that option.
Will a member assigned a role when/if he/she joins the group?

Yes. If you have the option for a role to be created enabled.

Awesome

I think the owner of the website will have to manually create an email address for the MC. Can it be automated? Like use the group name by default @ website.com as the email address? That would be awesome! But, I know it's not possible as one has to setup the password and stuff.

Anyways, now the most important question.

Will I get your beta release? I have a website (not live) where I want to use AS. I really really want it. Pleeeease..... I won't tell anyone if you include me in. I will still pretend that I am not one of your beta tester and keep nagging you

About the wall:

I assume we will use the wall for the user profile. Will the user receive a notification (by default) of all messages on hos/her wall?

Will the user be able to see his wall on his profile page (not on the user profile)

What I am trying to say is that I don't to go back and forth from one page to another to see various modules if they are linked to my profile. Does that make sense?

Thanks for the update Will,

This sounds very interesting (Easily extend capabilities with your own custom ASP.NET controls.)
Will this be possible from day 1 and will there be documentation for this?

Will it be possible to have multiple instances of groups in one portal?

I would like to have Groups but also have the same functionality as groups but call it something else.

Will,
I suggest you check the gemini updates for dnn4.9.2 before releasing AS, because there are some major bug fixes planned for it. Especially if you're using the scheduler and caching (Do U?).
I guess many users will use AS just right after upgrading soon to dnn492. Meaning, AS1 should be prepared for that.
Anyway, it sounds great!!! Can't wait to put my hands on it...

Some questions after reading the list - Mostly features I didn't find:

1. Can ActiveProfile work together with AS? I want to give my users a social platform (AS), but also give them their own page (AP) - Can I combine the two?
2. Google widgets - I got a smiley a few days ago, but I can't see it in the list.
3. No blog for users? I think this is a must module to include...
4. Any advertisement options in AS? Can we embed banners in profiles? what are the limits in this area?
5. What about integration with Facebook and Myspace?
6. Menus - How will it act? Will it have seperate breadcrumbs?
7. No Events module included? Also A must module...

Thanx againl,

Active Social replaces the need for Active Profile.

2. Google widgets - I got a smiley a few days ago, but I can't see it in the list.

3. No blog for users? I think this is a must module to include...

You don't think there are enough blog modules out there already?

4. Any advertisement options in AS? Can we embed banners in profiles? what are the limits in this area?

Uses the DNN Banner functionality. You can place banners anywhere you like in a template.

5. What about integration with Facebook and Myspace?

We have a few ideas already, but want feedback from customers first.

6. Menus - How will it act? Will it have seperate breadcrumbs?

However you want. Again, all token and template based.

7. No Events module included? Also A must module...

Already in the works for the release immediately following 1.0.

Will,

You mentioned a while back that Molly would be posting on how we go about changing our licenses from Forum/Profile to Active Social. Are we going to be able to do that prior to the release?

Also, I see you added some new forums for AS, but I can't read the posts yet. I'm assuming it's supposed to be that way for now? Just checking.

Thanks

Wow, I only created those forums about 10 minutes ago. You guys really are clicking the refresh button . Those forums might be opened up tomorrow to Enterprise customers.

I haven't finalized exactly how we will go about switching over the licenses. There may not be any switching at all. We may just provide every enterprise customer with an Active Social license key based upon their current Active Forums license. We have way too many enterprise customers to try and handle this process manually. We also want it to be easy for you to get started immediately.

Enterprise customers will get first access to Active Social.

It's different when you have a blog module which is connected to your social system. This way, the user's profiule can show the latest blogs ets... You can also post the user's blogs on the home page. I think that every AP module should have it's replacement in AS...

Also, What about video and music galleries in addition to the images gallery?

And one logic question - If AS works with unique e-mails, and my current portal has some users with the same e-mails - then how is it going to work?

Sorry for the load of questions, I am prepering myself to the upgrade. I need to decide if I upgrade my excisting site, or creating a new one dedicated for AS...

This can be done in many other ways using a module that was specific for blogging. Again, still doesn't mean we won't add our own.

Also, What about video and music galleries in addition to the images gallery?

We are still working on this.

Uniquie emails is optional and works if you use our login and registration modules.

I would much, much prefer that this product be architected first to support integration with external social networking and Web 2.0 technologies. Then if people want to have an internally hosted blog, messaging, microblogging, tagging, etc, they can use that.

For our professional users, they aren't going to blog on our site much, if at all. They are going to want to "subscribe" their AS profile to their existing blogs, microblogging, LinkedIn, etc. accounts.

I think in the short and the long run, products that leverage these other services rather than try to compete with them will succeed.

So I'll want my Wall to be able to take automatic inputs from Twitter and for my profile to be able to show my LinkedIn Recommendations (does linkedin have an API for that?), my flikr photos, etc. At the very least, I want my wall to automatically show notifications and links to these things.

I assume that we will be able to integrate to 3rd part apps as other profile modules can.
I would like to be able to integrate with:

Ventrian's News Articles
BizModules UMG & UVG

They normally use the USERID passed on a URL parameter.
