It seems like my Amazon integration is not working. Pics in the album or in the journal do not show up. They upload but nothing shows. I am sure I am doing something wrong because it's happening to me only.
How do I create the "bucket"? In AS or I have to go to Amazon website and create it there?
|
|
I am using the latest AS/AF/DNN available.
Thanks. |

Am I doing anything wrong? Everything is correct. The root path is questionable, however, when I see the buckets through UMG or UVG I can see the root path defined above. |

Hey Frozen,
Download the S3 Fox Plugin for firefox and configure it from there. That's how I set mine up and it is working.

Frozen,
I know this is an old topic but ... I just setup an Amazon S3 account and have been trying to get it to work with my AS Galleries...
No luck what so ever...
I looked over what you posted and have also used the S3Fox plugin...I can see everything but when I set my preferences in AS nothing ever gets uploaded to the Amazon S3 bucket..
I'm pretty sure I've got the path correct now...
Any ideas?
Terry

Hi Terry,
My users are not AS users. They do not use it at all! All of them are Forum Users. So I do not know whether AS is really working. However, whatever few pictures there are they can be seen now. I don't know whether the S3 Fox Plugin worked for me but I have UVG and UMG so I also used them to create a bucket and then used that bucket name for AS. So honestly, I do not know which one worked for me, the S3 Fox Plugin or UMG.
Hope my post helps or at least gives you an idea.

Hmmm...I was able to get Amazon S3 working with UMG even without the S3 Fox Plugin...just can't seem to get AS to work with it at all. I may try creating a bucket with UMG as you suggested and see if that name works for AS. Thanks for the feedback... Terry |

Any chance that the article in the knowledge base on S3 Setup can show an example of the root path string (as the article is currently blank)? Are there any special permissions that need to be set up on S3? Thanks for any info, would be greatly appreciated. |

I also think that the bucket name cannot have a capital letter. Plz correct me if I am wrong. |

I am not sure about bucket names as I made all my lowercase. But I know from my experience that filenames are case sensitive, which can be something to get use to for windows people. It still gets me every now and then when I ftp a local file to my linux server not realizing that I started the filename with a capital letter. |

Thanks guys. Yes think it needs to be lower case. But do you reference it in the Active Social Control Panel > General Settings > Root Path for storage on you Amazon S3 as: http://mybucketname.s3.amazonaws.com/myfolder ? There actually is no clues as to what this should be. E.g. it could be just 'mybucketname' - it depends on what they are doing in the code since there isn't any validation of that field. Therefore some basic documentation would be useful- I've tried everything, this would take about 5 minutes to put online and it doesn't help that Active Modules put a title in the knowledge base to document this but then have left the body blank. Its almost a wind up! Configuring this is obviously a common problem. Why bother implementing functionality if you can't be bothered to spend a little time documenting it properly, thus saving us all hours, if not days of wasted time. |

Well, I can't seem to find it either, but it's pretty easy to explain. All you have to enter is the bucket name. Active Social will then use the same structure within in the bucket as if it were your portals directory. For example, I just accessed my aws.amazon.com console and created a new bucket. I copied the exact name of the bucket over to active social and it worked fine. You also need to provide your Access Id and secret key as well. |

Will, thanks so much for the prompt reply. Was beginning to start rocking in the corner. Now I know that, then my problem must be S3, although I am still on localhost so don't know if that would have an effect? |

Its not the firewall, the access keys are right and I've set the bucket permissions to everyone has full control in Firefox S3 organiser.
The event log is showing a SOAP exception, 'please re-send this request to the specified tempory endpoint.'
No images turn up in S3 so this may be AS trying to read the images that it thinks its put there?
Are there any special bucket permissions I need to set in S3?

Honestly, I do not know whether Firefox S3 Org. works. Like Will said access your aws.amazon.com console. Create a bucket there and copy and paste the bucket name in the AS control panel.

Is Amazon integration working for you guys?
My website is 5 GB already! I can see all the pictures uploaded by members in their folders via FTP. This should not be happening right? Is there a way I can delete these pictures manually from their folders without losing them in S3? I think my pictures are not being transferred to S3
Thanks

I got S3 working in the end: Problem I think was a bucket issue. I did two things to resolve this. Use S3 Org to delete my original bucket. Then I created a new bucket with a DIFFERENT bucket name to the original (when I created the same bucket name again it didn't work). Also I was using S3 Europe, once I used S3 North Amrecia it was OK. Works well now. |

Frozen, are you saying that your images are being stored on your server as well as S3? |

Yes, the pictures are being stored on the server as well. I have a open help desk ticket for this one. I was told by Ben that the files are not being transferred because of their size. If I understood it correctly, he said it was a bug in AS API/transfer thingy and they will fix it in the next release.
