Group Types

Group Types provide another way to re-purpose groups within the same site installation.  As of Active Social 1.3.4, the functionality for Group Types is fairly basic and straightforward.  Creating Group Types will be ideal for those that wish to have multiple lists of groups within a given installation and also wish to use categories.  Group Types are not required to use Active Social and completely disabled by default.  Follow the steps below to begin using the Group Types feature.

    Enable Group Types
    1. Go to the Global Group Settings section of the Active Social Control Panel.
    2. Scroll to the bottom of the Global Group Settings section and choose "Yes, Group Types should be enabled".  You will now see an empty input box where you can enter the name for a new Group Type.
    3. Enter the name you would like to use for the new Group Type and click the "Add" button.
    4. Click "Save Settings" after you have completed adding the necessary Group Types.
    5. The Group Types will now be available under the Group Details view in the Active Social Control Panel.
Create a List of Groups for a Specific Type
    1. Add a new Active Social Module instance to a new page.
    2. Choose Groups List from the Active Social view list.
    3. Choose the Group Type from the list of view options.
    4. Click Save
    Important Notes:
    • Group Types can only be assigned through the Active Social Control Panel at this time.
    • Multiple Group Lists on the same page is not supported.
    • Groups can only belong to one Group Type.
