I knew as soon as I set a date for release something would come up. The good news is that the past week has been very busy with new customers and existing customers preparing sites for release. This of course increases our support demands. When I see an increase in support requests the first thing I try to figure out is what we can do differently. This usually involves more documentation and/or changes within the application. We have been working very hard the past few days to improve all the little bugs and usability issues within Active Social. A feature should just simply work and not require adjustments or hacks.
Active Social is at very important stage right now. There is a tremendous amount of interest in the product and we are gaining more customers each day. It's extremely important for us to make sure that Active Social provides our customers and their users with a positive experience.
We are also making some changes to our development cycle starting next week. As I've said in the past, we want to get back to more frequent releases. This becomes more difficult when you have a team of developers working within the same code base. Some features take longer to implement which has caused us to delay getting minor updates released. Changing our internal procedures will improve issue tracking, ensure thorough product testing and allow for quicker delivery of updates. I'm also hoping it will allow us to be a little more accurate with release dates.
We have a few things left on our list to fix before we are ready for release. It looks like we will be able to update activesocial.com with the latest build later today.
Just to set some expectations, Active Social will not have a public release today, but it is looking really good for this week. Active Forums is still on track for release early next week.
Thanks,
Will
