Steven, nicely done. Thanks for the tutorial. Makes me want to purchase the program. Do you have any idea when the enhanced pane feature will be available?
I think it's in beta now (2.3). Not sure what to expect from them but they seem to "get it". |

Steve,
This is really cool...I've probably spent close to $1000 in skins over the past few years and have really only been happy with a few of them. I've been learning about skinning and css for a while but am at it only part time so this really looks promising.
I'm guessing you can also edit the skin and make changes to it using a standard editor after you've created it. Have you played around with modifying the containers with an editor?
Me too. Actually, closed to $2500 for clients, etc. I've become very good at eyeballing skins on snowcovered for "worthyness". I just have never seen the quality coming from skin designers for DNN like you would from templatemonster.com etc. I always end up compromising and "tuning" things myself. I have created some customer containers based on the code generated. It's pretty standard CSS stuff. |

Same here, I've been through hundreds of skins over the last several years, lots of free ones, lots of purchased ones, quite a few home-made ones, and I have yet to find a skin that is exactly what I needed. Flex2 is the closest I've seen so far, simply because it is significantly customizable. That software definitely looks intriguing, but right now I cannot justify spending the money on it. Maybe by the end of the weekend I'll be able to talk myself into it. *grin* |

They do have a trial. I used it for a couple of days (it generates skins but they are water marked) before deciding to purchase. |

Posted By Steven Webster on 25 Sep 2009 02:33 PM <blockquote> Posted By Dan Ball on 25 Sep 2009 01:44 PM Steven, I like the way the tabs blend into the content pane (colorwise). That helps people see where they are, kinda like a breadcrumb effect. </blockquote> Yes, that was the goal. I spend a lot of time on usability and find it's VERY important to always tell people where they are. Also, on this site, I opted for no drop downs on the main nav (which is the only horizontal nav) on top....rather they click on "community" and see a content page that mimics this tab layout. This way there are only ever to levels of nav to deal with (main section @ top) then specific parts of that section (@ left). That way every page, including the AS and Forum pages present exactly the same way every time. Again...still tweaking the layouts <img src="http://www.activemodules.com/Portals/0/activeforums_Attach/FindGroups.png" border="0"> I plan to incorporate ads below the nav. How do you plan to incorporate ads under navs? Are you going to incorporate in the Profile view or create some pane's in the skin? I am still debating on how to handle that? Anyone have some suggestions please advice. And great job on designing Steven. I like seeing all these screenshots of what everyone is doing with AS. I also went to the vertical tabs route but I put mine on the right column. I need ot do a few cleanups and I will share my screen here as well. |

Steven I was asking how you were going to implement the ads in the profile page? I am going to do ads on my site both gooogle and banner ads. But my profile view already takes full width of my page so I cannot add another pane on the right for ads. Google is easy I can add script in the profileview template but not sure about the banner ads. If you already done this any advice will be appreciated. Here is a screen shot of what I have done so far. Still needs more work... |
