Quick update about Active Forums 4.2 and Active Social

by Will M on 24 Jul 2009 10:01 PM

August 7th is the tentative release date for Active Forums 4.2.  That really means that I'm confident that we we will have an official release the week of August 10th.  Just as we have done with other releases in the past, customers will have access to a preview, if not the final version prior to the public release announcement.  I should have the final feature list ready later next week.

We will also be releasing an updated version of Active Social at the same time as Active Forums 4.2.  The exact version of Active Social has not been decided yet, but I'm hoping it will Active Social 1.2.

We will also be making changes to our licensing and version options with the release of Active Forums 4.2.  Some of the changes include:
  • Removing Active Forums Professional
  • Active Forums Enterprise will become Active Forums
  • Active Forums Standard and Express will become one.
  • Active Forums Lite will get an increase in the number of forums.
  • Changes to support policies across all versions.
Support and Upgrade policies for those that have a current Active Forums Enterprise or Active Social license will remain unchanged until their renewal.

The changes are designed to make us more efficient and provide the best service possible.

Thanks for the update Will. Keeping my fingers crossed it's AF 4.2 and AS 1.2.

■Changes to support policies across all versions.

As a paying customer I find that comment a little worryingly generic... any details please?

Hi Craig, I will be posting more details as we get closer, but keep in mind this statement from my original post.
Support and Upgrade policies for those that have a current Active Forums Enterprise or Active Social license will remain unchanged until their renewal.

Also, Enterprise and Social customers will really not see any changes. The biggest change will be details about what is included in support. For example, we are spending a tremendous amount of time creating custom themes and css tweeks for free. We can't afford to keep doing this.

Free custom themes & CSS tweaks?!?! OMW, you must've been crazy!

I always seem to miss out on the good stuff. I look forward to the full update, but you've put my mind at ease for now.

Sounds great, more fingers crossed here!

Any chance for customization of the activity journal / site journal in AS 1.2 (as in in integration with 3rd party app info streams) ?
