Roadmap for Active Forums 4.x

by Will M on 08 Jun 2009 10:56 AM

We will announce three new major releases at DevConnections/OpenForce Las Vegas this coming November:  Active Forums 5.0, Active Social 3.0 and Active Purchase 3.0.  Unlike the previous years, you will not see blog posts with screen captures of what's coming soon.  Instead, we are going to have several releases along the way.  Below is a draft of the roadmap for Active Forums 4.x leading up to the release of Active Forums 5.0.  Please keep in mind that this is just a draft and is subject to change.  We will post an update after each release to help keep track of progress and any new features that we decide to add.

Version 4.2
  • Revised security model - greater flexibility, improved management options and better performance.
  • New Template Engine - Leveraging the code base from Active Social, Active Forums will have a completely new template and skinning engine that offers high performance and full layout control.
  • Custom Control Integration - Easily extend Active Forums with your own ASP.NET controls
  • New Notification Options - Additional options to be notified of new posts.
Version 4.3
  • New Content Options - Flexible template sets that allow you to use Active Forums for more than just a discussion forum.
  • Categorization - In addition to tags, you will be able to assign topics to admin defined categories.
  • New Display Options - Allow your users to view topics in the way that they want.
Version 4.4
  • Intelligent Moderation - Moderate content based upon criteria you define.
  • Custom Fields - Capture more than just a title and body with each new post.
Version 4.5
  • Analytics - Monitor traffic, track how users interact with others, watch users collaborate in real-time.
Version 5.0
  • Full integration with Active Social Collaboration tools.

    Hi Will,

This is all great news. I noticed that you are referring to AP 3.0 and would like to know if in the meantime AP 2.0 is going to be released? Furthermore, I was hoping that you would have some info about Active Cases 2.0?

    Thanks in advance.

I know you have only blogged about big picture and not the details. However, I would like to know whether 4.2 will have threaded view? When will it be released. I think I have only 3? months before my subscription ends. Thanks a lot.

does Active Forums currently have links to the ActiveSocial profile page? In other words, I click on user/avatar and it takes me to the Active Social page of that user?
