Active Social uses the default DotNetNuke user profile database for member information. This means that Active Social is automatically compatible with any other module that also stores profile information in the DNN profile. This also means that if you have data entered in the DNN profile for all your users, it will be available to Active Social immediately without having to import.
To access the full list of profile properties, login as an administrator and open the DNN Users page. Click “Manage Profile Properties”. You can add/remove profile properties from this page. The checkboxes on the right side can be used to set a property as “required”.
The profile properties are displayed in the Info tab on a member’s profile.
Profile properties have their own section in the Active Social control panel on the Members page. Use the check boxes to enabled search based on properties. Search will only work on properties containing text.
The visibility column allows you to choose who can see your members profile information.
- Default - The default setting will use the values specified in the DotNetNuke Profile Properties editor mentioned above.
- Admin Only – Only site administrators can see the profile property.
- User & Admin – The user can see their own property, in addition to the site administrator.

- User Preference – This setting creates a dropdown menu that allows the user to choose who can and cannot see their information.
- Only Friends – Only a user’s friends can see their information.
- Private – Only the user can see their own information.
- Everyone – Anyone who can view the page, including unauthenticated users, can view the information.
