Messaging Options

by Will Morgenweck on 30 May 2009 06:10 AM

The messaging options are located on the settings page of the control panel. The first option is to enable the pop-up notifications. Checking the box will cause a pop up notification to appear in the bottom right corner whenever a user has a new private message or notification. The next setting allows you to set how often the system checks for new messages; two is the default and recommended setting. The pop-up notifications will only display on a page that has the Welcome Center skin object.

The third setting is the amount of time a user must wait in between two consecutive messages. Enabling this option will discourage “spam” messages or accidental double messages. The number is the amount of seconds that must elapse before the user can send another message.

Recipient Restrictions - Select how users will be able to message other users.  Friends Only is recommended for public sites where their could be a potential for fake registrations and spammers.  When set to friends only, users will only be able to send to their friends.  All Users means they can send to any member of the site that has private messaging enabled.

Enable Attachments - Enable this option to allow users to send attachments with private messages.  NOTE: Attachments will not be sent via email and can only be accessed by returning to the messaging center.

Maximum Attachment Size - Specify the maximum file size allowed to be uploaded.  This should be in kilobytes.  The default is 3,072kb or 3 megabytes.

Allowed File Types - Only attachments with extensions specified in Allowed File Types will be accepted.
