I was reading some of the topics on the DotNetNuke forums earlier this week regarding issues with DotNetNuke 5.0. With a community as large as DotNetNuke, you will always hear of a few failed upgrades or installs with every new release. I was actually going to wait until later next week to upgrade our site. After reading more negative posts than positive, I felt I needed to see what the problem was for myself. Instead of explaining each step and issues we encountered I decided to record a video of the process.
I would like to point out a few things first. Joe Brinkman from DotNetNuke Corp has watched the video and asked why I used the install package instead of the upgrade package. I think he is going to provide some additional information on the differences between the two packages. In most cases, I do use the upgrade package. However, when we upgraded to 4.9.0 the upgrade failed for us using the upgrade only package. I immediately tried the install package which corrected the issues we were having with the upgrade. The only core modules we have installed on this site are Links, Text/HTML and UsersOnline. I think this had something to do with our upgrade issues to 4.9. If you use the install package, just make sure you do not overwrite your web.config file.
