BTW thought I will let you know Will, I just clicked add reply and there is still an attachment there which was I attached to a post about 8 hours ago and never submitted, I was testing the upload control.

Have you added a reply from the page with the attachments since that time?

The intended behavior is that it will stay in your personal files until you either post a message with the attachment or delete it.

No rush on answering this Will, but one thing just struck me that may or may not be an issue. With the use of AJAX are the forums still SEO Friendly? In the past I have seen search engines have great difficulty when AJAX is used, the AJAX links just end up not getting indexed. It's been a while since I looked into workarounds. I'd imagine it is either no longer a concern or something you have already addressed?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,
Very good question. I thought I had blogged about this, but maybe not. The AJAX features are only enabled for registered users. This makes sure that all other links are search engine friendly. With the additional SEO improvements, we are already seeing google index more of our forum pages than it did before.

A very elegant/straight forward solution Will! You very well may have blogged about it before, heck, I may have even read it, unfortunately I have the memory of a pea! ;-)

I guess I never did mention it in a blog post. I did talk about it in a podcast interview with Seablick Consulting.

Will also mentioned that even though the URL parameters have changed, the OLD parameters will still work, so all that hard work getting pages into google and the other search engines won't be lost.

Something is annoying about the submit button in quick reply. You have to click the cursor only at certain place for the submit button to work. I am using firefox.

I am using the latest AS/AF/DNN available.
Thanks.

Agreed Frozen DNN. I would recommend moving the a href, onclick, and onmouseover events from the current DIV tag to the next level parent DIV. From looking at the html source this should make the entire gray box surrounding the floppy disk icon and submit text an active submit link. Minor nit, but a good change for usability.

This new version is looking really good. The only thing that I find a little bit odd is that the AJAX functionality maintains scroll position when changing pages. I personally don't have a problem with it, but I think some users might complain. Is there a user setting where users can turn off the AJAX navigation?

It's actually not suppose to maintain scroll position. I had this fixed, but since the update last night it isn't working again. This will be corrected. Yes, users will be able to turn off AJAX

Just a little thought: It would be cool if the "e-mail this to a friend"-feature popped up (ajax-style) like the preview feature when writting posts. It would look nice and be more intuitive/quick as the user would stay on the same page.

Just a suggestion please don't take this personally, and I realize this is only an afterthought when your primary goal is infusing functionality into the product, but everything above the posts in topic view i.e. voting, subscribing, etc. is very messy.  I think it would help to take some time and come up with a better template.  Not the most important thing since the templates are so easy to change but just wanted to point that out in case you had time at some point to allocate.  Keep up the good work!!

The Submit Button with the floppy icon thoughts off a few people, the floppy disk icon says to me "save", not submit. I know it actually saves to the DB, I believe this is to technical for most people. Most people understand the Submit Button as "Post" or "Submit", maybe there is a better icon for Submit/Post.

A little picky, but it through my wife off and she has posted 3500 times with AF and runs Binkybunny.com, a forum that has 55000 posts.

Thanks for all the good work!

You are able to change the icon as you please by replacing the image in the theme folder.

Not sure if this has been reported before; just happened less than one hour ago:

Firefox 3 on a Mac

Posting an answer to http://www.activemodules.com/Commun...fault.aspx (that's Active Update / The New TopPosts Module). I used Add Reply instead of Quick Reply.

After hitting submit, my message "disappeared" without further notice. After re-rewriting my message (ouch), and copying it before sending ("learning by doing" ;-) ), the same happened again.

Then, I tried it with the "Quick Reply" and got a nice message that the forum is moderated. So it seems this message is broken for "Add reply" - at least on Firefox 3.

Oh - and whoeever is the moderator: This explains the "triple-post" ;-)

Sunny regards,
Jashan

The active topics in 4.0 is not as good as in 3.7. There is no grouping and not all the topics are always shown. The easiest way to see this is when leave your browser open with the AF page and after some time (hour) you click on active topics again. The time of your last visit doesn't always change. In 3.7 this works perfect. I wrote this on the test forum but i don't have access to it any more.

Will please look at this, active topics is to important for the forums to have these errors.

Nothing you have mentioned is an actual error. I will see what I can do about the grouping.

The easiest way to see this is when leave your browser open with the AF page and after some time (hour) you click on active topics again. The time of your last visit doesn't always change.

How would you expect to? You are leaving your browser open and you still have an active session. Previously when you expressed your opinion about the new Active Topics you didn't like how it was updating the last active date. I then changed it back to track exactly the same way AF 3.7 was tracking. The only difference now is that AF 4.0 will keep you logged in when you leave your browser open. If you don't like this then all you have to do is disable who's online on your site.

In 3.7 it also works when users online is on and the results are grouped.

After i made the previous reply i left my browser open and the next time i looked with active topics there where no new topics or reply's. The time was changed. Then i looked with the option yesterday and there where 5 new ones that active topics had missed.

In 3.7 the time changes every time you come back and it starts with a new list of topics you didn't see before. In 4.0 the old topics stays in the list. So this list is growing the whole day until there is a time change.

Looks good to me...

Hi

I have just signed in after 24hrs or so and I see the following, nothing no topics active at all since I last visited. If I check the forums I find this is wrong as stuff has been happening in my absence.

I know how it works now on 3.7 and it was working ok on 4 until recently.
