The New TopPosts Module

by Mollie on 22 Jul 2008 04:52 PM

Hello all!

The preview release for Active Forums 4.0 was released to current Enterprise customers on Friday. We are still testing and Will plans on posting another update soon!

Although I can not personally speed the process along, I can keep updating everyone on some exciting new features that will be available in the new version. The TopPosts Module is being replaced with the What's New Module. New features of the What's New  Module include a tree style listing to make selecting forums much easier, new tokens to give you greater design flexibility and the ability to display information based upon Tags.

Not too much to update this week. Next week should be a much larger post with updates on official support and update policies.

Let me know if you all have any questions!

I'm afraid this may be a little impatient, but: Is there any way I can make sure I get ActiveModules 4.0 next week? I wouldn't mind getting a beta-version (as this is for a Website of a project in its beta-stage anyways). Also, the "upgrade-process" doesn't matter to me since this will be a fresh install (which is also why I'm a bit impatient ;-) ).

I'd even consider getting an Enterprise license, if that's a viable (and the only viable) way ;-)

Concerning the Enterprise license, I'd also have a question: On http://www.activemodules.com/products/activeforums.aspx it says that one license covers one DotNetNuke Install. I'm in the situation that I have 3 DotNetNuke installs on one machine, with 3 portals, 1 portal and 4 portals per installation. Right now, I just need ActiveModules for one single-portal, but in the longer run (one or two months), I'd also like to use ActiveModules for another portal which is on a separate DotNetNuke install. Does that mean I'd have to get another license (even though it's all on one machine and pretty "low-scale"), or would it be possible to wait until I distribute those installs onto several machines when things need to scale up, and use a single license until then?

Personally, I'd definitely prefer 1 license per server to 1 license per install (there's a couple of reasons why it makes a lot of sense to have multiple installations with few portals on a single server, but if you're doing "big business", you'd usually have multiple servers)...

Sunny regards,
Jashan

Hi Jashan,

Thank you for your questions. We are still in the process of testing Active Forums 4.0. Unfortunately, I cannot safely assure you that it will be released next week. If you were to purchase Active Forums Enterprise now, you would be eligible for a preview release.

We currently do not offer a server license. You would need to purchase the appropriate version depending on the amount of portals you wish to install. We do offer discounts for a multiple license purchase.

Please let me know if this helps. Feel free to contact me through the contact form if you would like to discuss this issue in detail: http://www.activemodules.com/Company/ContactUs/ContactForm.aspx

Thank you,
Mollie

Is there a place where we can see a list of what changes were made?

You've probably published it somewhere, and I'm just too dense to find it.

thanks,
Rick

Mollie
Is [USERID] one of the newly support tags?  This would allow us to display user avatars in topposts.

Also, [FORUM] would be another good one to add.

Will,
This list looks great and is very helpful. So glad to see "group" concepts in there. One question: does [AUTHORID] = [USERID] ????
