Recent Active Social Progress and Updated Website

by Mollie on 21 Jan 2009 04:59 PM

What do you think of the updated website so far? Our main goal was to make it as user friendly/easy to navigate as possible. We wanted to make downloads and support options easily accessible. Let us know what you think! We would love to hear any suggestions.

The limited release of Active Social is going great! We have been working extremely hard to make sure Active Social is perfect for our customers before we move to a public release. There is no set date for the public release of Active Social, but it will be very soon. That is all I can really say about the date. If you would like to be directly notified once a release date is announced or when Active Social is available for public purchase, please let me know.

I think drop downs would help, unless you are already familiar with the site (in which case navigation doesnt matter much anyways) there is no way to know what is contained in each menu item, still it is not bad and yes if you are looking for the forums, the best menu item choice would be "support" but that is not always immediately obvious - just my 2 cents, also it would be nice to see the Active Social product actually running on this site, it would also allow people to give feedback without the danger of them trying to use it currently and creating a lot of customer service needs.

We moved away from drop-downs to improve overall site performance. We just changed the top menu a bit; previously there was a link that said "community" which actually contained support, forums and downloads. I though that was very confusing, so I'm hoping the new layout will be more user friendly. Thanks for the feedback though!

I liked the menu as a time saver for getting to the forums.

I ended up creatina shortcut directly to the forums for the same reason.... so it's easy to hit "Refresh" while looking for a new Active Social or Active Forums update. :-)

I do like the look and feel of the site a lot though... has a great Web 2.0 feel to it.

Mollie, the improvements are fine...one question though, why is there a "my profile" and also an "account profile", and why are these two seperate entities? It would also be nice for the "members online" function to be a little more prominent.

I hear ya on that and of course any dnn admin has the same issue what with solpart being default - if you ever decide you want drop downs Snapsis wrote one that is lightweight enough to be insignificant, unlike the rather large solpart and just plain massive telerik menu.

One note: When it said community, it was a bit more intuitive I think as forums are generally associated less with support and more with community - if you do not see a forum button but you see community that was fairly obvious forums were there, still having the forums more than one click away is not ideal IMO -- either way the difference is not huge.

I think we may end up adding forums or community back to the main menu.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Please add my name to the list of those to be notified once AS goes on sale for the rest of the world.

I do have one question, and I apologize if the answer's staring me in the face, but I just haven't been able to find it. If I purchase Active Social, will I also need to buy Active Forums to have forum capability, or is AF bundled in with AS?

Thanks in advance. Am anxiously and eagerly awaiting the full release.

Active Social includes an Enterprise Version of Active Forums. You will not need to purchase a separate license of AF Enterprise. You're good to go by just purchasing Active Social.

I guess you guys are all flat out trying to get the release ready for the public but can you put the AM customers out of our misery by giving us an approximate release date.
