Is there a migration process for existing customer who have My Profile installed in future releases of AP or will it be a complete rebuild as Lucas had indicated?

Do you have a road map for future releases and a time table?

Does the future AP include integration with the core DNN Profile so when a new user signs up there new Active Profile is created in a one step process? Or include your own Dynamic Registration to do this?

We have no intention for a complete rebuild. We believe Lucas created a very strong foundation for us to expand upon. His intent for a rebuild was to allow MyProfile to become more of a framework where other developers could extend and support the application. That is not the approach we are going to take. We feel that with a few adjustments to the architecture we could still allow third-parties to offer plugins for Active Profile.

Do you have a road map for future releases and a time table?

Our first goal is to make sure we address any know issues or bugs. We intend to have a release around the same time as the next release of Active Forums. This will include much tighter integration between Active Forums and Active Profile.

Very good question. One thing that I really like about Active Profile is the ability to map DNN User profile fields to your fields in Active Profile. In the short term, part of the tighter integration with Active Forums, would be similar to what the basic profile in Active Forums does now. When a user first access Active Forums, a profile record is created. Right now we are testing giving you an option between the Basic Profile (what you have currently) and Active Profile. If you choose to use Active Profile, then the profile will be automatically created when the user first visits the forums. We need to add a few more options to Active Profile in order to keep this clean and simple. For instance, I would like to see the Administrator have the ability to lock down the profile layout and installed modules. This would allow you to enforce a consistent look and feel throughout your site.

Will,
I agree on the "lock down" concept completely. For many sites, giving users complete layout control (and introducing the concept of modules, content panes, and skins is too much. Just setting up a "this is your profile page and it look like this" is often plenty.

My implementations tend to be more "facebook" than "MySpace" so this would be great.

I also have wondered if the skin within a skin concept make sense for Active Profiles. It seems like things would be easier if we just seperated each module in Profile and just placed them in content panes on the site skin. While this may represent a significant architecture issue for AP it would certainly make it easier to do things with tab controls, navigation & layout, etc.

For example it would be nice setup a tabbed interface for user profiles:

My Profile | My Gallery | My Blog | My Videos | My Friends

It might also allow easier integration with other modules that could be displayed within a tab on the same page and use something like the username or ideally userid to pick up and display other user based content. As an example, I would still like to use BizModules Ultra Video Gallery for user submitted videoes, but it would be really cool to display a specific user's submitted vids on a tab in their profile instead of the MyMedia that came with MyProfile.

I'm working on a longer list but wanted to get these out there for now.

I would also like to see an option to add a profile automatically on registration. We do this now and each "empty" profile still shows a username and basic registration info (name, etc) along with a "dummy" or "no image" profile image.

This shows membership activity which is a good thing.

Hi Will,

I would be very interested in the integration of video module Ultra Video Gallery (UVG) for some of my websites. I found out that there are customers of yours who actually are using the combination of ActiveProfile and UVG. Some very cool examples are www.thisoldrv.com and www.mymagiczone.com and both of them are also using AF.

It would be really great to have an option for showing a list of videos in a user's profile and play them with UVG.

Kind regards,
Marc

I think I am looking for just what you are describing here.

I would like for the user to be able to use Dynamic Registration-type functionality to sign up/register for the site. DR allows the ability to include a photo, and also takes them to another set of questions if they tick 'I am a farmer' rather than 'I am a consumer'. Then after they register, they are taken to their 'already' created profile page (with predetermined template) where they can then start adding links, blog entries, photos to albums, videos rss feeds, etc.

I would also like to see in their profile their latest forum entries. I also need a couple of default rss feeds in their profile that they cannot move or delete -> so I can push content about events, membership appeals, new items in the store, etc.

And, I need to be able to customize the 'MyProfile' page - so not age and sex but other things like county, looking for a particular product or service, etc.

I imagine this functionality is spread out somehow between DNN core, Dynamic Registration, Active Profiles and Forums, or hopefully on the way from the 'Active' folks, but when I try to think about them all at once I get a brain cramp and have to go outside in the sun.

thanks,

Will Sugg
